Success Story of Shivam Purohit – Cleared IBPS PO 2018, IBPS CLERK 2018

Read the success story of Shivam Purohit, who declined the joining offer from a multinational company and chose to follow his passion towards banking & finance sector. His sheer passion & dedication helped him to clear IBPS CLERK & PO in his very first attempt.

INTRODUCTION

My name is Shivam Purohit. I have done B.E. in ECE from UIT RGPV, Bhopal. I graduated in 2018 and was placed in an MNC, but soon after graduating from college I realized my passion towards banking and finance that made me not to join the company, and I started preparing for the upcoming exams.

EXAMS CLEARED

I have cleared IBPS PO 2018 and IBPS CLERK 2018 in my first attempt and allotted Union Bank of India in both which was my first preference.

Brief About My Preparation Journey:

SBI PO  was my first exam but I couldn’t clear it because I wasn’t much aware about the syllabus as well as the variety of questions that came in the exam. Later I discovered Oliveboard somewhere in august 2018 but found the materials and mock tests of Oliveboard a bit tougher than the actual exams but that somehow helped me in gaining an edge over the others. I took RRB PO and successfully cleared the prelims but unfortunately couldn’t qualify for the interview. Even though I scored 10 marks more than the overall cutoff but couldn’t clear the reasoning cutoff by 1 mark.

From then onwards I started devoting equal time to all the four sections because it was important to score equally well in all the four sections rather than just being excellent in any one of them. Just by giving lots and lots of mock tests and analyzing my performance on a regular basis helped me score way above the cutoff in IBPS PO as well as in IBPS CLERK.

Preparation  Strategy

Aptitude:

I kept my preparation as simple as possible. I solved level one questions of quantitative aptitude by Arun Sharma and just kept on revising the concepts. Oliveboard sectional tests as well as full length mock tests enhanced my ability to pick the right questions with a right approach.

Reasoning:

I didn’t opt for any book for reasoning. I completely relied on full length tests and sectional quizzes and by practicing and solving questions regularly anyone can excel in reasoning.

English:

English wasn’t a tough nut to crack for me as I had this habit of reading newspapers and articles regularly. Nowadays they check your ability to quickly read and comprehend. Devoting more time to reading will automatically improve your grammar and vocabulary.

GA/GK:

GA is an important section to score. Most students don’t give equal importance to GA and suffer in exams. I relied on Affairs cloud monthly pocket capsule and Oliveboard’s monthly GK Bolt for covering last six months GA. Most importantly revision is the key so that we don’t get confused during the actual exam.

Interview:

For the interview preparation I read about every topic that has been in the news for the past one year related to banking and finance industry. I frequently revised all the government policies, acts, schemes that were directly or indirectly related to banking industry. Interview is all about presenting precise facts with confidence.

Role of Oliveboard:

Oliveboard helped me to sail through the banking exams. The questions of Oliveboard mock tests were very much similar to what was asked in the exam. Their mock analysis is one of the best in the edutech industry. The after test analysis is more personalized and it overall helps you to gain control over your weak sections. I undoubtedly recommend Oliveboard to all the future aspirants.
