1. Inspiring Success Story of Somesh

My name is Somesh. I have completed my graduation in Mechanical Engineering. I started my career in a private firm and worked there for the next 2 years but I did not feel confident to continue that profile for a lifetime. I explored the other possible options available to me and decided to start preparing for banking examinations. It’s been 2 years since I started my preparation and I have cleared both IBPS Clerk (Bank of India from WB) and PO (Allahabad Bank) this year. I will be joining as a Probationary officer in due time. Also, I am on the waiting list of LIC Assistant.

I am not a bookworm type of person. I am not a guy who can sit for hours and keep studying. So, in the initial days of preparation, I noticed the Questions types which I faced in actual exams and made a proper plan to converge my focus on relevant areas so that I could gain a fair idea of what to solve and what to leave during future exams. I have not given enormous mock tests for Prelims. Rather I spent my time analyzing those properly, again and again, to make my attempting strategy more full-proof. My speed was never very good so I always tried to maintain my accuracy.

In Prelims, as one does not have much time to think, it is always better to counter the paper with your pre-planned strategy. And in mains, what actually matters is your calm mind and accuracy. I attempted very few main mock tests and tried to solve questions (does not matter how many) without being panicked. It worked for me in Mains. I always believe that if the paper seems hard to me, it must be hard for most of the people also. So I chose the questions which I felt doable and tried to solve them with 100% accuracy. As it was the Mains exam, time never became any issue.

2. Somesh Section-Wise Preparation Strategy

2.1 Quant Section Preparation Strategy

I was from a Science background, Quant was never a tough nut for me. I identified my strong areas and tried to improve them further. I decided to leave the tougher questions of probability and P&C, because solving those were like a rare bird to me. One should memorize Squares and Cubes of numbers, Conversions from percentages to fraction, and vice-versa to save some precious time. I generally practiced questions from Mock tests and different study apps.

2.2 English Section Preparation Strategy

It was one of my strong areas and I never dedicated a special time to prepare for this section. The English news Channels and a good Editorial column were my only source of knowledge. Nowadays, banks are providing many questions from RC especially in mains. One can ace the types if she/he regularly reads these.

2.3 Reasoning Section Preparation Strategy

This section was my weakest link to success. Mains level puzzles were a nightmare for me and still are. I secured average marks in this section by attempting mainly miscellaneous questions. I have not solved any puzzles in the exam.

2.4 Current Affairs Preparation Strategy

I kept my source very limited. I followed Weekly CA and kept revising them once or twice in a week. And at the end of a month, I watched Monthly compilations of important questions from YouTube. Exam specific capsules of selected questions by OB is a must-read for anyone.

2.5 Interview Preparation

I watched a well-known video series to grasp the static and basic banking knowledge. The last 3-4 months banking and financial events are a must to know as one can easily expect questions from those. Basic HR questions should be well prepared and it would eventually help you to build the initial impression. How to agree or disagree politely with the interviewers one should practice this many times before the actual event. Never raise your voice to prove your confidence.

4. Role of Oliveboard In Cracking The Exam

I attempted very few but quality mock tests. These mock tests helped me to plug-in the loopholes of my preparation. The types of questions provided by OB were updated with the new pattern which helped me to keep myself calm and to deliver my best. Oliveboard played a major role in my success by providing quality content and a competitive environment. Best of luck aspirants.
