Renowned Nuclear Physicist Bikash Sinha Passed Away

Bikash Sinha, a distinguished nuclear physicist renowned for his work, passed away on August 11th. He had previously served as the director of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) and the Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC). At the age of 78, he succumbed to age-related illnesses. In recognition of his significant contributions to science and technology, he was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan award in 2010.

Railways to Establish Janaushadhi Kendras at 50 Railway Stations

The Indian Railways has taken steps to improve the well-being of passengers at railway stations by introducing a policy framework for setting up Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) in the circulating areas and concourses of stations. These kendras will be managed by authorized licensees. NCLT Clears $10 Billion Mega-Merger Between Zee and Sony

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has granted approval for the merger of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, India’s domestic entertainment company, with Culver Max Entertainment (formerly known as Sony Pictures Networks India or SPNI).

During the announcement of the order, the bench led by Justice HV Subba Rao and member Madhu Sinha provided approval to the merger scheme and dismissed objections raised by several lenders, including Axis Finance, JC Flowers Asset Reconstruction Co, IDBI Bank, Imax Corp, and IDBI Trusteeship. Home Minister Tabled 3 Bills in LS to Overhaul the Criminal Justice System

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, has introduced three new Bills in the Lok Sabha that propose a comprehensive revamp of the country’s criminal justice system.

These three Bills are intended to replace the existing laws: the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860; the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973; and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

  • The IPC will be replaced by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
  • The CrPC will be replaced by the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.
  • The Indian Evidence Act will be replaced by the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023.
