National Capital shines amongst Swachh cities

Marked by a robust monitoring system and strategic integration of innovative technologies to optimize waste management processes, New Delhi ranks 7th amongst the cleanest cities in India in the more than 1 lakh population category. NDMC has taken a proactive approach to sustainable waste management by setting up 6 community Organic Waste Converters in residential areas.

In the city report card released under the Swachh Survekshan (survey), the NDMC received a 99% score in door-to-door collection of waste; 87% in source segregation; 100% in waste generation vs processing and remediation of dumpsites, cleanliness of water bodies and public toilets; and 93% in cleanliness of residential and market areas.

The NDMC was also ranked at number 3 in the list of capital cities after Bhopal and Vijayawada at number 1 and 2 respectively, and a 5-star Garbage Free City (GFC) rating. The star rating conditions are based on 25 key parameters across the solid waste management spectrum.

National Coal Index Shows Decline of 4.75% in December, 2023

The National Coal Index (Provisional) has shown a significant decline of 4.75 % in December 2023 at 155.44 points compared to December 2022, where it was at 163.19 points. This notable decrease indicates sufficient availability of coal in the market to meet the growing demands. The National Coal Index (NCI) is a price index that combines coal prices from all sales channels.

It considers prices of coking and non-coking coal of various grades transacted in the regulated (power and fertilizer) and non-regulated sectors. Established with the base year as FY 2017-18, NCI serves as a reliable indicator of market dynamics, providing valuable insights into price fluctuations.

Ministry of Port, Shipping, and Waterways Hosts Successful Workshop on Financing and Insurance Challenges in the Shipping Sector

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) successfully convened industry experts and stakeholders for a dynamic workshop focused on “Challenges and Prospective Solutions on Financing and Insurance in the Shipping Sector.” Held in New Delhi, the event garnered significant participation and engagement from key stakeholders in the maritime community.

The aim was to identify solutions to help grow the Indian shipbuilding sector and elevate the same from a current rank of 22nd to the top 5 globally by 2047. Also, the aim is to increase Indian tonnage as suggested in MIV 2030 and MAKV 2047. This workshop is planned to be followed by a subsequent workshop on promoting the shipbuilding and ship repair business in India.

MoD signs contract worth Rs.1,752 Cr with AWEIL for 463 Stabilised Remote Control Guns for Indian Navy & Indian Coast Guard

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract on February 14, 2024, with Advanced Weapon Equipment India Ltd. (AWEIL), Kanpur for the manufacturing & supply of a total of 463 indigenously manufactured 12.7 mm Stabilised Remote Control Guns (SRCG) for the Indian Navy & Indian Coast Guard at a total cost of Rs. 1752.13 crores, with Indigenous Content (IC) of more than 85%.

The SRCG will enhance the capability of the Navy and Coast Guard to accurately engage small targets that pose a threat to ships in an asymmetric environment, both day and night. This acquisition will further boost the vision of “Aatmanirbharta in Defence”. This contract will also open up a large avenue in defence manufacturing for over 125 Indian Vendors.

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying launches the realigned AHIDF Scheme at New Delhi

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala launched the realigned AHIDF Scheme and released the Radio Jingle on AHIDF in New Delhi. In his address, he informed that the scheme was started during the COVID period which was a difficult time for the entire country. He said that the scheme has been realigned and will be implemented for 3 year

The industry, FPO, and Dairy Cooperatives should benefit from the scheme. The Cabinet in its meeting on 01.02.2024 approved the realignment of the AHIDF under Infrastructure Development Fund with an outlay of ₹ 29610 crore. Now the Total Fund will be ₹.29610 cr. Instead of ₹. 15000cr. The realigned scheme will be implemented for a further period of 3 years till 2025-26.

In the realigned scheme, the Dairy Infrastructure Development Fund has been subsumed. Now the Dairy Cooperatives will avail benefit of interest subvention of 3% under AHIDF instead of 2.5% which was received in DIDF. For the transparent implementation of the scheme, the DAHD has developed a portal www.ahidf.udyamimitra.in for the application and processing of the request.

Benefits of the scheme are: -Interest Subvention of 3% payable up to 8 years, Individuals, FPO, Dairy Cooperatives, Private Companies, Section 8 companies, MSME, and Credit guarantee cover unto 25% of the term loan. No ceiling on the loan amount

Loan up to 90% of the estimated/actual project cost, Detailing capital subsidy schemes of other ministries or state-level schemes.

Ministry of DoNER, North Eastern Council and IIM Shillong sign MoU for the continued operation of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre

An MoU was signed between the NEC Shillong, IIM Shillong and the MDoNER for continuing the operation of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis deepening engagement with IIM Shillong on 13-02-2024 at the NEC Secretariat, Shillong and MDoNER joining through weblink.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis was created by a tripartite agreement between IIM Shillong and the Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region and Northeastern Council signed on 15th Oct 2016. The Centre will work under several key areas, including: – Training and Development, Research and Consultancy, Policy Advocacy, Civic engagement etc.

AFMS & IIT Roorkee join hands to foster research in improving combat medical support & patient care of serving personnel

In another milestone towards Armed Forces Medical Services research, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 14 Feb 2024, between Armed Forces Medical Services and Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The MoU aims towards promoting collaborative biomedical research, to aid in improving the combat medical support and patient care of serving personnel.

Under this MoU, Armed Forces Medical Services will be able to utilize the expertise of IIT Roorkee in various fields, development of novel medical devices, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Apart from research, faculty exchange programmes, joint academic activities and promotion of start-ups in the domain of health care.

Sanjay Kumar Jain takes charge of IRCTC CMD

Railway PSU IRCTC on 14 Feb announced the appointment of Sanjay Kumar Jain as its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) with immediate effect.

Before this role, Jain was Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) of Northern Railway, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) said in an exchange filing.

Axis Bank appoints Pranam Wahi as additional director

Japan loses its position as the world’s third-largest economy, Germany takes over

Japan has slipped to the world’s fourth-largest economy as it fell behind the size of Germany’s in 2023, says Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities.

Japan’s nominal GDP totalled $4.2 trillion last year, or about 591 trillion yen. Germany’s, announced last month, was $4.4 trillion, or $4.5 trillion, depending on the currency conversion, he added.

Deposits paucity may hit Indian banks credit growth in FY25: Report

Challenges in mobilising deposits to meet loan demand may hit bank credit growth in India in the next financial year (FY25). Credit growth may slip to 14% year-on-year (YoY) in FY25 compared to 16% till December 2023, said S&P Global Ratings. Private banks’ LDR could cross 97% by March 2026 in our alternate scenario of 18% credit growth.
