The 16th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2023, which focuses on advancing sustainable urban mobility solutions, came to a successful conclusion with its valedictory session. The event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, and Shri Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. It was a platform for discussions and initiatives aimed at improving urban mobility and transportation in India.

  • During the valedictory session, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manoj Joshi, touched upon several crucial topics related to urban mobility. He emphasized the importance of Transit Orientation Development (TOD) and discussed the associated challenges.
  • Shri Joshi also highlighted the significance of smart cards as a convenient payment method for commuters and mentioned the government’s efforts to adopt the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) to enhance the interoperability of various urban transport modes.
  • Effective fare collection systems were underscored as vital for the sustainability of transport systems, and the potential of leveraging real estate around roads for project financial viability was mentioned.

In the valedictory session, awards were presented to the winning state/city authorities for “Excellence/ best practice projects in Urban Transport” in the following categories recommended by the Awards Selection Committee and accepted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs

About the 16th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2023

The 16th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Exhibition 2023 was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in collaboration with the Institute of Urban Transport (India) and with the support of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. The event took place from 27th to 29th October 2023, at the Manekshaw Centre, Parade Road, Delhi Cantt., New Delhi.

This conference brought together leaders, experts, and stakeholders from around the world to engage in discussions and collaborations concerning the future of urban transportation. It aimed to showcase best practices in urban transport, the latest technologies, services, and developments in the field.

The exhibition, a significant component of the UMI Conference, featured displays of urban transport innovations and practices from India and other countries. It was inaugurated by Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, on October 27, 2023, and ran throughout the three days of the conference. The exhibition featured around 22 exhibitors representing Metro Rail Companies, public and private sectors, and more.
