Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s participation in the 20th ASEAN-India Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 7, 2023, signifies India’s commitment to strengthening its ties with the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries.

Key Points of PM’s address –

During the ASEAN-India Summit, the Prime Minister had in-depth talks with ASEAN partners about enhancing the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and planning its future direction. The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of ASEAN’s central role in the Indo-Pacific and pointed out the similarities between India’s Indo-Pacific Ocean’s Initiative (IPOI) and ASEAN’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). He also stressed the urgency of completing the review of the ASEAN-India Free Trade Agreement (AITIGA) within a specified timeframe.

Additionally, the Prime Minister put forward a 12-point plan to enhance India-ASEAN collaboration. This plan encompasses aspects such as connectivity, digital advancement, trade, and economic involvement, tackling current issues, fostering people-to-people interactions, and deepening strategic ties.
