HDFC ERGO General Insurance elevates Anuj Tyagi as MD and CEO

HDFC ERGO General Insurance promoted Anuj Tyagi as the new managing director and chief executive, succeeding Ritesh Kumar effective July 1. Tyagi, with the company since 2008, previously served as joint managing director. Kumar will transition to ERGO International’s board and become the deputy COO focusing on Asian growth markets.

India’s downstream oil and gas profits to fall; upstream to remain strong: Fitch Ratings

India’s oil and gas sector is poised for a nuanced fiscal performance in FY24, with anticipated declines in downstream profits contrasting with robust upstream growth, according to the latest analysis from Fitch Ratings. Fitch projects a 3% – 4% increase in India’s petroleum product demand for the fiscal year ending in March 2025 (FY25).

Diesel and petrol will continue to dominate the consumption landscape, accounting for over half of the overall demand, which grew by 5% in FY24 and 2% in the initial months of FY25. In FY24, India’s crude oil import dependency climbed to 87.8%, up from 87.4% in FY23, with Russia emerging as the largest oil supplier, accounting for 36 % of imports.

Maharashtra Governor releases book titled ‘Gateways to the Sea: Historic Ports and Docks of Mumbai Region’

The Governor of Maharashtra Shri Ramesh Bais released a book titled ‘Gateways to the Sea: Historic Ports and Docks of Mumbai Region’ at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on June 22, 2024. The book has been published by the Publications Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, GoI. It comprises 18 articles by renowned authors, compiled by the Maritime Mumbai Museum Society (MMMS)

The publication of this book is an important milestone in creating awareness about the ancient ports stated above and it also covers the development of modern ports and docks of Mumbai including Mazagon Dock, Mumbai Port, Bombay Dock, Sassoon Dock and Ferry Wharf also known as Bhaucha Dhakka.

Kotak Mahindra Bank to add up to 200 branches in FY25

India’s Kotak Mahindra Bank will increase its pace of opening new branches and add about 175 to 200 branches in the financial year 2024-25, a senior official at the bank said, months after the central bank barred the private lender from sourcing new customers digitally.

In April, the Reserve Bank of India stopped Kotak from adding new customers via its online and mobile banking channels, and from issuing new credit cards, due to information technology-related deficiencies. About 95% of its new personal loans by volume were disbursed digitally in the October-December quarter, while it issued 99% of new credit cards through digital channels.

Universal Sompo settles ₹8 crore claims under Ayushman Bharat in 4 months

Universal Sompo General Insurance Company has provided cashless claims approval of ₹8.03 crore for over 8,170 hospital admissions under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in the Union Territory Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu. The scheme has become operational since February 1 and the cashless approvals have been made over the past 142 days.

Paul Thomas, MD & CEO of ESAF Small Finance Bank, has been elected as Chairperson of the board of Sa-Dhan, which is an association of microfinance and impact finance institutions. Sayeed has been re-elected for the second term on the board of Sa-Dhan at the Association’s Annual General Body meeting held on June 21st.
