Govt facilitates mutually agreed price of PDM at 4,263 per tonne for sale by sugar mills to fertilizer companies

The Central Government has facilitated a mutually agreed price of Potassium Derived from Molasses (PDM) at 4,263 per tonne for sale by sugar mills to fertilizer companies for the current year. In addition, PDM Manufacturers can also claim subsidies at 345 rupees per ton at present rates under the Nutrients Based Subsidy Scheme (NBS).

Currently, potash as a fertilizer is imported. Production of Potassium Derived from Molasses will reduce import dependency and will make India Atmanirbhar in its production. Presently about 5 Lakh tonnes of Potash Ash generated from ethanol distilleries is being sold domestically whereas the potential to produce this Ash could reach up to 10 to 12 Lakh tonnes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ‘Sudarshan Setu’, the country’s longest cable-stayed bridge of 2.32 km, on the Arabian Sea, connecting Beyt Dwarka island to mainland Okha in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district. Beyt Dwarka is an island near Okha Port, which is nearly 30 km from Dwarka town.

The 2.32 km bridge, including 900 meters of central double-span cable-stayed portion and a 2.45 km long approach road, has been constructed for Rs 979 crore, as per an official release. The bridge, which was known as ‘Signature Bridge’, has been renamed as ‘Sudarshan Setu’ or Sudarshan Bridge.

SECI unveils India's largest solar-battery project, pioneering renewable energy innovation in Chhattisgarh

The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited, under the aegis of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has successfully commissioned India’s largest Battery Energy Storage System, which stores energy using solar energy. The 40 megawatts (MW) / 120MWh BESS with a solar photovoltaic (PV) plant located in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.

The project has been constructed with funding from the World Bank and Clean Technology Fund under Innovation in Solar Power & Hybrid Technologies Projects well as leveraged financing from domestic lending agencies.

Latest NSSO consumer survey indicates poverty down to 5%: NITI Aayog CEO

National Sample Survey Office, under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, released data on household consumption expenditure for the year 2022-23 which shows per capita monthly household expenditure more than doubled in 2022-23 as compared to 2011-12.

The latest consumer expenditure survey indicates that poverty has come down to 5% in the country and people are becoming prosperous both in rural and urban areas. People were kept in 20 different categories and the data showed that the average per capita monthly expenditure for all categories stood at Rs 3,773 in rural areas and Rs 6,459 in urban areas.

The average per capita monthly expenditure of 0-5% fractile class is pegged at Rs 1,373 in rural areas and Rs 2,001 in urban areas. According to the survey data, the gap was 84% in 2011-12 and has come down to 71% in 2022-23.

The 5th edition of Joint Military Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ between the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self Defence Force commenced at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. The Exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 25th February to 9th March 2024. Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ is an annual exercise conducted alternatively in India and Japan.

Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ will enable the two sides to share their best practices in Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for conducting tactical operations. The Exercise will also facilitate developing inter-operability, bonhomie, and camaraderie between troops of both sides.

UAE was removed from the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF Grey List), a list also known as jurisdiction under increased monitoring list, which includes countries that are actively working with the FATF to address strategic deficiencies in their regimes to counter money laundering, terrorist financing, and proliferation financing.

Kenya and Namibia are now added to the FATF grey list. Countries Removed from FATF’s Grey List: UAE, Gibraltar, Barbados, and Uganda. FATF is an intergovernmental organization founded in 1989 on the initiative of the G7 to develop policies to combat money laundering and to maintain certain interests. In 2001, its mandate was expanded to include terrorism financing.

The Philippines has been the first Asian country to ratify a convention to end workplace violence and harassment, the International Labour Organization said and has deposited the instrument of ratification of the Violence and Harassment Convention 2019 (No. 190). The Philippines becomes the 38th country in the world and the first Asian country to ratify Convention No. 190.

Convention No. 190 is the first international labor standard to address violence & harassment in the world of work comprehensively, according to the ILO. Under this, members are mandated to adopt, in consultation with representative employers’ and workers’ organizations, inclusive, gender-responsive strategies for preventing & eradicating workplace violence and harassment.
