The International Day of Clean Energy on 26 January was declared by the General Assembly (resolution A/77/327) as a call to raise awareness and mobilize action for a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet.

  • Adopting clean energy is integral to the fight against climate change. A large chunk of the greenhouse gases that blanket the Earth and trap the Sun’s heat are generated through energy production, by burning fossil fuels (oil, coal, and gas) to generate electricity and heat.
  • The science is clear: to limit climate change, we need to end our reliance on fossil fuels and invest in alternative sources of energy that are clean, accessible, affordable, sustainable, and reliable.

Jharkhand govt brings down age for enrolling in pension scheme to 50

The Jharkhand cabinet has recently approved the proposal to include all women, tribals, and Dalits above 50 in its old-age pension scheme.

Earlier, those above 60 years used to get the benefit of the scheme, under which Rs 1,000 is provided to each beneficiary per month.

The Ministry of Education has released the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2021-2022 which said that female enrolment in Higher Education increased to 2.07 crore in 2021-22 from 1.57 crore in 2014-15 (an increase of 50 lakh students, 32 per cent increase).

100 new biogas plants soon to be established in UP: Hardeep Puri

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced the establishment of 100 new biogas plants in Uttar Pradesh. A new compressed biogas plant was inaugurated in Budaun, with the foundation stone being laid for new plants in eight other districts. The Budaun plant, developed on 50 acres with an investment of about Rs 135 crore, will produce 14 tonnes of compressed biogas.

Oil regulator PNGRB launches drive to increase piped gas adoption

Oil regulator PNGRB has launched a two-month-long nationwide drive to increase the adoption of piped natural gas as a cooking fuel in household kitchens in an attempt to cut dependence on imported fossil fuels. “The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) along with city gas distribution entities will run a campaign from January 26 to March 31.
