The Railway Protection Force (RPF), a specialized security force responsible for protecting Indian Railways and its passengers, is organizing a day-long event on October 28, 2023, at the National Police Memorial (NPM) in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, to commemorate the memory of its martyrs.

Tribute to RPF Personnel

The Railway Protection Force has organized a day-long event to pay tribute to its martyrs.

In the morning, the families of the martyrs, along with RPF personnel and school children, visited the National Police Memorial to offer floral tributes to the martyrs and visit the memorial’s museum.
In the evening, the Director General of RPF, Shri Manoj Yadava, will honor and felicitate the families of the martyrs.
The event will include a band display, a retreat ceremony, and a screening of a short film depicting the heroics of police personnel, including RPF, in serving the nation and its citizens.
This event is a way for the RPF to remember and pay tribute to over a thousand officers and soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, including the 13 RPF personnel who sacrificed their lives last year.
It’s also a recognition of the dedication and sacrifices of police personnel across the nation.

The Railway Protection Force has made significant strides in its mission to safeguard railway passengers and property. They have been involved in saving lives, assisting those in need, and combating issues such as human trafficking and drug smuggling. In recognition of their dedication and bravery, RPF personnel have been awarded numerous honors and medals. It includes 3 President’s Gallantry Medals, 19 Police Gallantry Medals, 93 President’s Police Medals, 927 Police Medals, and 20 Jeevan Raksha Medals. These awards highlight the exceptional contributions and sacrifices made by the RPF in the service of the nation.

RPF Saved around 852 lives across the country.
RPF helped 12398 children who ran away from their homes to reunite with their families.
RPF helped in returning passengers’ lost luggage worth ₹46 crores.

About the Railway Protection Force

The Railway Protection Force is an armed force of the Indian Union under the administrative and operational control of Indian Railways, Ministry of Railways. It was established by the Railway Protection Force Act, 1957, enacted by the Indian Parliament for “the better protection and security of railway property and passenger area”. It has the power to search, arrest, enquire, and prosecute offenses committed under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1966, and the Railways Act, 1989.

The RPF is the largest railway security force in the world with a strength of over 75,000 personnel. It is deployed at over 7,000 railway stations and 64,000 km of railway track across India.
