Q1. Tell us something about yourself.

A: My name is Riya Mavi. I completed my schooling with PCM and then pursued B.Sc. Mathematics (Hons.) from Delhi University, followed by M.Sc. Mathematics from Hansraj College. During my post-graduation, I got to know about SSC exams and started my preparation in 2022.

Q2. When did you start SSC CGL preparation and how was your first attempt?

A: I started preparing during my M.Sc. In 2022, within a few months of preparation, I appeared for SSC CGL and qualified it. Since my basics in Maths, Reasoning, and English were strong, I could clear the exam, but GS was a weak area for me.

Q3. What were your strongest and weakest subjects in SSC CGL?

A: My strongest subjects were Mathematics and Reasoning, and English was also manageable. My weakest subject was General Studies because I had no prior background in it.

Q4. How important are mock tests in SSC CGL preparation?

A: Mock tests are extremely important, but more important than giving mocks is analyzing them. Initially, I used to give mocks without analysis, and my score was stuck around 130–140. Once I started proper analysis, my score increased by 15–20 marks.

Q5. How did you analyze mock tests effectively?

A: I used to spend almost double the time on analysis compared to attempting the mock. I checked which questions took more time, where I made mistakes, which questions I guessed, and which I could not attempt. I also maintained a separate notebook to note down mistakes and new methods.

A: I followed a fixed order while attempting the paper—Reasoning, then GK, then English, and finally Maths. I also learned the art of skipping difficult questions to save time and focus on easier ones first.

A: Initially, I gave a few full-length mocks to understand my level. Then I focused on sectional and topic-wise tests. As my preparation improved, I started giving weekly full mocks, and closer to the exam, I gave full-length mocks daily.

Q8. How did you improve your General Studies score?

A: I focused on understanding concepts first instead of memorizing facts. Then I made short notes for revision and followed a loop revision strategy, which helped me retain information without cramming.

Q9. What was your revision strategy for SSC CGL?

A: I followed a loop-based revision strategy where I kept revising subjects in cycles. This ensured that I stayed in touch with all topics continuously and did not forget anything.

Q10. How did you manage study hours during preparation?

A: In the beginning, I studied 10–12 hours daily. Later, when I was working, I managed 4–5 hours on weekdays and more on weekends. Before the exam, I increased my study hours again to 12–14 hours.

A: I learned from my mistakes in earlier attempts. I practiced staying calm during mocks and avoided panic by treating the exam like a mock test. I also avoided unnecessary interaction before the exam and stayed focused.

A: Discipline and consistency are the most important factors. Avoid distractions, focus on your goals, and make sure you analyze your mocks properly. If you stay consistent, success will follow.
