SSC CHSL Typing Test and Skill Test Preparation
Unlike many other SSC examinations, SSC CHSL includes a Typing Test or Skill Test depending on the post. Candidates should therefore begin typing practice well before Tier 2 rather than waiting until the objective examination is completed. For LDC/JSA posts, the latest verified CHSL scheme prescribes a typing speed of 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi. DEO candidates have to meet the applicable data-entry speed requirement prescribed for their post.

How to Use SSC CHSL Study Material Effectively?
Downloading several PDFs is not enough unless the material is used systematically. Candidates should first complete basic concepts and then solve topic-wise questions. Previous year papers can be used to understand SSC’s question pattern, while mock tests should be introduced gradually to improve time management.
A useful preparation cycle is Learn → Practise → Analyse → Revise → Test. Candidates who repeatedly analyse their errors are more likely to improve than those who only attempt a large number of questions without reviewing them.
During the final stage of preparation, more time should be devoted to previous year papers, mock tests, revision notes and weak areas instead of repeatedly starting new books or resources.
What Is the SSC CHSL Exam Pattern?
SSC CHSL Exam Pattern includes Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 1 is used for shortlisting candidates for Tier 2, while final merit under the latest verified CHSL scheme is prepared using the aggregate performance in Section I and Section II of Tier 2, subject to qualifying the Computer Knowledge Test and Skill/Typing Test.
SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern
SSC CHSL Tier 1 is a Computer-Based Examination consisting of four subjects. Under the latest officially verifiable CHSL pattern, candidates receive 60 minutes for the complete paper, while eligible scribe candidates receive the applicable compensatory time. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every incorrect answer.
| Subject | Number of Questions | Maximum Marks |
| English Language | 25 | 50 |
| General Intelligence | 25 | 50 |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 |
| General Awareness | 25 | 50 |
| Total | 100 | 200 |
Exam Duration: 60 minutes under the latest verified CHSL scheme.
Negative Marking: 0.50 marks are deducted for each incorrect answer.
Purpose of Tier 1: Candidates are shortlisted for Tier 2 on the basis of their Tier 1 performance.
SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern
SSC CHSL Tier 2 consists of objective modules along with Computer Knowledge and a Skill Test/Typing Test. The examination is conducted in two sessions. Session I contains Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning and General Intelligence, English Language and Comprehension, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge. Session II consists of the applicable Skill Test or Typing Test.
| Session | Section/Module | Questions | Maximum Marks | Time |
| Session I | Mathematical Abilities | 30 | 90 | Section I: 1 hour |
| Session I | Reasoning and General Intelligence | 30 | 90 | Included in Section I |
| Session I | English Language and Comprehension | 40 | 120 | Section II: 1 hour |
| Session I | General Awareness | 20 | 60 | Included in Section II |
| Session I | Computer Knowledge Test | 15 | 45 | 15 minutes |
| Session II | Skill Test for DEO | Qualifying | Qualifying | As prescribed |
| Session II | Typing Test for LDC/JSA | Qualifying | Qualifying | 10 minutes under the latest verified scheme |
There is a negative marking of 1 mark for every incorrect answer in the objective sections of Tier 2. Candidates are required to qualify the applicable sections separately.
The aggregate marks scored in Section I and Section II of Tier 2 are used for preparation of the merit list, subject to candidates qualifying the Computer Knowledge Test and Skill Test/Typing Test.
