Karnataka’s 3R- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Pitch for Swachh Diwali

Swachh Diwali Shubh Diwali Campaign

Under the Swachh Diwali Shubh Diwali campaign, cities are launching a variety of activities and initiatives. In Karnataka, the focus is on setting up Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) center kiosks in open fields, marketplaces, and other high-footfall areas. These kiosks aim to encourage citizens not only to donate old, unused items but also to participate in the Swachh Diwali Signature campaign.

RRR Centers Embrace Creativity

The RRR Centers are adorned with artworks crafted by school children, along with diyas and other eco-friendly products made by SHGs and NGOs. As part of community involvement, religious places are urged to create Shubh Diwali Rangolis using natural flowers, leaves, or colors. QR code standees placed outside religious sites, markets, bus stops, shopping malls, and theaters facilitate citizen pledges.

Promoting Eco-friendly Choices

To boost eco-friendly and locally made products, special markets are being organized in collaboration with APMC. These markets showcase a range of eco-friendly Diwali items crafted by SHGs, spanning decorations, gifts, and sweets. The initiative encourages individuals to make responsible and sustainable choices.

ULBs Innovate for Swachh Diwali

Some Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have introduced unique initiatives, such as in Hassan, where the Hassanamba Temple opens its doors once a year during Diwali. The civic body, aiming for awareness and unity, set up QR Code standees at the temple. Devotees are invited to join the Swachh Diwali Signature campaign, fostering a sense of togetherness for Garbage Free Cities.

Creative Outreach

In Udupi, famous tourist beaches feature sand art for public attention. Pourakarmikas distribute earthen diyas in slum areas in Vijayanagara to raise awareness about green firecrackers and pollution caused by firecrackers. The collective efforts of citizens, religious institutions, ULBs, civic bodies, and the government are creating an environment conducive to a Swachh Diwali and eco-friendly celebrations.
