More About the News

This initiative was inaugurated by Shri Charanjit Singh, Additional Secretary of Rural Livelihoods at the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

The ‘ODOP Wall’ is a significant step towards realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of showcasing the unique crafts of India to the world.

Objective of the Collaboration

  • Through this collaboration, distinctive products from various districts are being identified and promoted for their cultural and unique attributes.
  • These products encompass a range of handicrafts, handloom items, and agricultural products that are deeply associated with the identity of their place of origin.
  • The objective of this partnership is to direct consumers towards emporia, thereby increasing sales and enhancing the visibility of SARAS products.
  • This effort contributes to the promotion of indigenous crafts and supports rural Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and women artisans.

About One District One Product (ODOP) Program

The One District One Product (ODOP) program, led by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, is designed to bring to life the Prime Minister‘s vision of self-reliance for both the nation and its citizens.

  • Launched in 2018, the program seeks to harness the unique strengths and resources of each district to enhance local entrepreneurship, generate employment opportunities, and boost economic growth.
  • Under the ODOP scheme, each district identifies and promotes a specific product that it specializes in or has a historical association with.
  • This product is then developed, marketed, and supported through various interventions, including skill development, financial assistance, technology upgrades, and market linkages.
  • The program not only aims to revive and promote traditional crafts and industries but also contributes to rural development and poverty alleviation.

Aim of ODOP Program

  • This initiative is focused on fostering well-rounded development across all districts of the country.
  • The program’s approach involves identifying, branding, and promoting a distinct product from each district.
  • By doing so, it highlights the rich and diverse array of products originating from different regions, including the realms of handlooms and handicrafts, among others.

ODOP is aligned with the broader Make in India and Skill India initiatives, focusing on empowering local artisans, entrepreneurs, and craftsmen to transform their traditional skills into sustainable and viable businesses.
