Applications are being accepted for Sub Inspectors by the Punjab Police Recruitment Board. A total of 560 job openings have been announced in the 3 different cadres of District Police, Intelligence Officers, Armed Police, and Investigation except for the sports quota seats, which will be filled separately.

Points to Remember

  • Recruited candidates may be posted anywhere in Punjab, India, or internationally.
  • All candidates are advised that transfers from one cadre to another are not permitted under Section 4-b of the 2007 Punjab Police Act.
  • All newly hired Sub-Inspectors will be subject to the Punjab Government’s regulatory norms, policies, as well as instructions governing members/officials of various Punjab police cadres, to ensure efficiency, accountability, fair dealing, and transparency in public dealing & police operations, including Initial Posting, Transfer and Tenure Policy.
  • Reservations for SC/ ST and other backward classes will be strictly enforced in compliance with the Punjab Scheduled Castes & Backward Classes Act of 2006 and the Punjab government’s current orders.
  • The quota for Ex-servicemen/wives/dependent children of Ex-servicemen/grandchildren of Gallantry Award Winners will be carried out in line with Punjab Recruitment of Ex-Servicemen Rules, 1982, and the Punjab Government’s current orders.
  • Ex-Servicemen from the central armed police forces are not qualified to apply in the Ex-Servicemen category.
  • Reservations for the wards of police personnel would be enforced in accordance with Punjab government regulations given from time to time.

Punjab Police SI Eligibility

Candidates must be aware of the eligibility criteria to avoid being disqualified. The eligibility criteria cover areas like age, academic qualifications, and physical fitness. 

Age-related Criteria 

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age but not older than 28 years of age as of 1st January 2021. However, candidates from categories like SC/ST/BC and Government Employees are eligible for a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit. Further Ex-servicemen are eligible for a relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit. 

Academic Qualifications

Candidates should hold at least a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in any discipline from a recognized university. 

Physical Standards 

These fall into 2 categories – Physical Measurements Tests (PMTs) and Physical Standard Tests (PSTs). PMT relates to the minimum height requirements that candidates must meet. Whereas, PSTs are events that the candidates must complete. 

Punjab Police SI Selection Process 

The Punjab Police SI Selection Process takes place in various stages as given below:

  1. The Written Examination:

This is the first stage in the selection process. General Category candidates need to score at least 50% marks to clear the examination. SC/ST/BC candidates need to score at least 45% marks to clear the examination. 

  1. Physical Screening Test:

Only candidates who qualify for the written exam can proceed to this stage. The physical Screening Test is meant to be qualifying, and hence no marks will be awarded. However, the candidates must clear the required fitness events. 

  1. Interview:

The Punjab Police will call the candidates for an interview based on their merit in the written examination. The interview is scored for a maximum of 15 marks. They would call candidates, thrice the number of vacancies available. 

  1. Merit List

Finally, they publish the Merit List based on the marks obtained by the candidates for their performance in the written examination and the interview. 

Punjab Police SI Salary

The 7th Pay Commission determines the Punjab Police SI Salary for the selected candidates. The salary ranges from Rs 10,300 to R 34800 and comes with a grade of Rs 4,600. However, the selected candidates would be on probation for 3 years.
