Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2023

Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2023: The Ministry of Women and Child Development is set to observe the 6th Rashtriya Poshan Maah throughout September 2023, with a renewed focus on tackling malnutrition holistically. This year’s objective aligns closely with the Mission Poshan 2.0, emphasizing a life-cycle approach. At the heart of Poshan Maah 2023 lies a comprehensive campaign aimed at spreading awareness about pivotal life stages, including pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. The overarching theme, “Suposhit Bharat, Sakshar Bharat, Sashakt Bharat” (Nutrition-rich India, Educated India, Empowered India), underscores the mission to disseminate nutritional knowledge far and wide.

The Vision of POSHAN Abhiyaan: A Malnutrition-Free India

POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyaan is a Multi-Ministerial Convergence Mission designed to lead India towards a future free from the scourge of malnutrition. The government launched this initiative, originally known as the National Nutrition Mission, on March 8, 2018, with the goal of effectively addressing malnutrition.

The POSHAN Abhiyaan has played a pivotal role in enhancing nutritional outcomes for a diverse demographic, encompassing pregnant women, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and children below six years of age. It places a strong emphasis on holistic content delivery, outreach, and tangible outcomes. The program is geared towards promoting practices that foster health, overall wellness, and resilience against diseases and malnutrition.

Throughout this month-long event, India is embarking on an intensified campaign aimed at raising awareness about nutrition at the grassroots level. The campaign’s focal points include Exclusive Breastfeeding and Complementary Feeding. Notable activities include the “Swasth Balak Spardha” (Healthy Child Competition), designed to instill a sense of healthy competition that promotes nutrition and overall well-being. Other initiatives include “Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi” (Nutrition as well as Education), “Improving Nutrition through Mission LiFE” (Lifestyle for Environment), Tribal-Focused Nutrition Sensitization, and a dedicated effort to address anemia through the “Test, Treat, Talk” approach.

In addition to these initiatives, the Jan Andolan movement under Poshan Maah serves as an extended platform for collective celebration, echoing the ‘Meri Mati Mera Desh’ campaign, commemorating the nation’s journey towards freedom and progress.

Poshan Maah 2023 aims to magnify community participation on a grand scale, leveraging the potential of Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies to realize the Honorable Prime Minister’s vision of a nutritionally enriched India during the Amrit Kaal (Golden Era).
