1. Motivating Success Story of Harsh Shukla

Hi, My Name is Harsh Shukla. I have done MBA from DIMAT, Raipur (2014-16 Batch) and I have been working with Private Banks from the last four years after my MBA.

It was June 2018 where I began to think about how to join a public sector bank.

It was not easy for me to devote time to studies because side by side I was working with a private bank. Despite this, I joined a coaching center in my city Raipur in the morning batch of 6-8 AM. I continued there for two months, gathered some ideas of basics, syllabus, the pattern of the exams but then I realized that it is self-study and the practice which is the most important in cracking any exam.

Then I started preparing at home only. I appeared for IBPS PO Preliminary in 2018 and couldn’t clear the Pre-exam as I got 0.50 fewer marks than the cut-off. This gave me confidence that I can do it. I also had the advantage of my qualification and banking experience which made me eligible for so many exams.

Then I targeted IBPS SO Marketing the same year. Cleared Pre and Mains, scored really good in Interview but couldn’t make it to the Final List. The struggle continued and I targeted only two exams, RRB Scale 2 and IBPS SO Marketing in the year 2019. I was able to clear a single written examination of RRB Scale 2 General Banking Officer, scored well in Interview but again, couldn’t make it to final selection because marks obtained in written were not well above the cut-off.

Then, I started preparing for IBPS SO Marketing. I had the time of three months – October, November, December to prepare. Things were not easy, I switched my job the same year, I was new to my organization (a leading private bank).

My marriage was also to take place in February 2020. Despite office hours and looking after all the arrangements of my marriage, I was able to clear all the three stages of the exam this time.

• Pre – December 2019
• Mains – January 2020
• Interview – February 2020

I used to study 3-4 hours at night with full dedication. Finally, the pleasant result came from IBPS on 20th May 2020.

2. Section-wise Preparation Strategy

2.1 English Section Preparation Strategy

I have been scoring good in English from school days and I didn’t do anything special for the exams. I used to appear in exams directly and attempt this paper. Reading English articles and watching videos in English can help you a lot.

2.2 Reasoning Section Preparation Strategy

The reasoning is one paper where we can practice and excel.

Syllogism, Inequality, Blood Relation – These topics should be attempted first and then we should jump to Puzzle and Seating Arrangements.

The formula to improve Reasoning is simple – Practice, Practice, and Practice.

Initially, you may consume an hour for solving a single puzzle but as you keep on practicing you will take less time in solving a question.

2.3 Quant Section Preparation Strategy

I always attempted the easy and less time-consuming topics first. For example – Number Series, Simplification, Quadratic Equation, Data Interpretation.

Arithmetic part I used to see at last as I am not very strong in it and it is also time-consuming.

Data Interpretation is very scoring as 30-40% paper consists of DI only. Once you arrange the data provided in the question, it doesn’t take much time to solve questions of DI.

There will always be one or two tough time-consuming questions out of five, skip them, and concentrate on the rest.

One smart approach will always be to do the maximum questions with accuracy in this limited time. It doesn’t matter if your attempts are on the lower side, what matters is how accurately you have invested your time and efforts in solving those limited questions.
