The CCS-1 group-1 service main examination written paper has in total three papers. Each paper carries a total of 250 marks. The questions are of a descriptive type, and the minimum marks for qualifying for the mains are open category 340 and the other category 255. Each paper is for 3 hours.
- Paper 1 tests the candidates on Indian culture and modern Indian history, Social Issues of Tamil Nadu and India, and General Aptitude and Mental Ability, which is the SSLC Standard
- Paper 2 tests the candidate on Indian Politics and the Political Trends that are emerging all through the world and in India, the Role and the Technology and Science Impact on the development of India, and the heritage and culture of Tamil society.
- Paper 3 tests candidates on Indian Geography, especially on Tamil Nadu, Disaster Management, Biodiversity and Environment and the Indian Economy, including the Current patterns and the global economic effect on India.
The applicant has to qualify in each stage.
After this, the candidate has to appear for an interview conducted by the examining board. The interview carries 100 marks, and the candidate has to qualify in each paper to be eligible to sit for the interview.
