  1. University Grant Commission (National Eligibility Test)

This examination is conducted for recruiting candidates for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) along with school and college level assistant lecturers. The UGC exam is considered one of the toughest exams to pass, as many students tend to fail even at the fourth and fifth attempt also.  Conducted every year, the aspiring candidates are tested on more than 83 subjects.

  1. IBPS/ SBI

Every year, the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) publish a notification for more recruiting more than 20,000 people for the post of probationary clerks and probationary officers. This exam is a popular and sought after option when it comes to government jobs for graduates. Due to this reason, more than 20 lakhs candidates apply for the IBPS PO position annually. Even though you can just be a graduate in order to apply for this exam but the eligibility criteria vary based on specialist officers and others.

State Bank of India (SBI) conducts it’s very own exam to recruit people in the positions of probationary clerks and probationary officers. Every year, more than 15 lakh people appear for this exam, with the hopes of filling up the coveted SBI PO vacancies.

  1. Civil services

The Civil Services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is considered the toughest exam to crack. Counted as one of the hardest entrance examinations in the world, it is also the most sought after! Carried out all year round, this exam aims at recruiting candidates in the positions of IFS, IPS, and IAS along with Central Services. In order to apply and appear for this extremely competitive entrance examination, candidates will at least have to have a Bachelor’s Degree in any relevant discipline.

  1. National Defense Academy (NDA)

Conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, this examination looks to recruit people for the navy, army and air force. Aspiring candidates will have to sit through a written exam, personality test, intelligence test, and psychological aptitude test. Once the written exam is over, personal interviews are conducted for each candidate. This examination happens twice a year.

  1. SSC-Combined Graduate Level

The Staff Selection Committee conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) entrance exam, for recruiting candidates in various positions in government departments and ministries. On an average, every year more than 25 lakhs students sit for this examination.
