International Week of Solidarity with the Peoples of Non-Self-Governing Territories 2024 | 25-31 May

In the UN Charter, a Non-Self-Governing Territory is defined as a territory “whose people have not yet attained a full measure of self-government.” From 1960 to 2002, 54 territories attained self-government. At present, there are 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories remaining. It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999.

JSSPS Cadet Secures Two Bronze Medals at IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championship in Lima, Peru

Babulal Hembrom, a Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) cadet, secured two bronze medals at the IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championship. Babulal clinched third place in the 49 kg Snatch and Clean & Jerk categories at the championship ongoing in Lima, Peru.

Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (JSSPS) is supported by Central Coal Fields Ltd, in its endeavour to promote sports facilities in coal-bearing states. Further, the Coal Ministry has plans to set up a “Centre of Excellence in Sports” in each of the 7 subsidiaries under the CSR initiative.

FTII student bags ‘La Cinef’ Award at 77th Cannes Film Festival

“SUNFLOWERS WERE THE FIRST ONES TO KNOW”, a course-end film by Chidanand Naik, a student of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), received the Cannes’ La Cinef Award for Best Short at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France. The winner was officially announced on 23rd May 2024 at the festival where the student Director Shri Chidanand Naik received the award.

This is the first time a film by a student from 1-year Television course of FTII has been selected and won at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. Before joining FTII in 2022, Chidanand S Naik was also selected as one of the 75 Creative Minds at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI), an initiative of the Ministry of I&B to recognize and support budding young artists in the field of Cinema.

‘La Cinef’ is an official section of the festival aimed at encouraging new talents and recognizing films from film schools across the world. The film was among 18 shorts (14 live-action and 4 animated films) selected from a total of 2,263 films submitted by 555 film schools all over the world.

RBI approves appointment of Pradeep Kumar Sinha as Part-time Chairman of ICICI Bank

The Reserve Bank of India has granted its approval for the appointment of Pradeep Kumar Sinha as the Part-time Chairman of ICICI Bank. Sinha is set to assume this role for a term of three years, starting from July 1, 2024. Sinha will step into the position vacated by G. C. Chaturvedi, who is due to retire as Non-Executive Part-time Chairman on June 30, 2024.

Kerala tops youth unemployment rate, Delhi registers lowest: PLFS Survey

Kerala recorded the highest unemployment rate among the 15-29 age group in urban areas for the January-March quarter of 2024, while Delhi had the lowest joblessness rate, according to the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI).

The survey, which covered 22 states and Union territories, identified Jammu & Kashmir, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Odisha as other states with high unemployment rates in this age category. The overall unemployment rate for the 15-29 age group was 17 % for the January-March period, an increase from 16.5% in the previous quarter but slightly lower than the 17.3 %in 2023

For all age groups, the unemployment rate was 6.7%, marginally up from 6.5% in the previous quarter and slightly below the 6.8% from the previous year.

RBI imposes Rs 3.1 lakh penalty on Hero FinCorp

The RBI said it imposed a penalty of Rs 3.1 lakh on Hero FinCorp Limited for non-compliance with certain provisions relating to the Fair Practices Code. The Reserve Bank, however, added the penalty is based on deficiencies in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the company with its customer
