Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation for ‘Rani Gaidinliu Tribal Freedom
Fighters Museum’ in Manipur through video conferencing.

  • The museum will be set up at Luangkao village in Tamenglong district of Manipur, which is the birthplace of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.
  • The proposed museum is being set up at an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • In 2016, the Tribal Affairs Ministry had sanctioned setting up of nine museums dedicated to tribal freedom fighters across the country.

Meeting of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) members
was held in New Delhi to examine the Indian economic growth in 2022-23 (FY23) and

Wall Street brokerage Goldman Sachs has predicted India’s GDP for FY22 at 9.1% in
its recent Macro Outlook 2022 report.

Banking news

State Bank of India signed a strategic agreement with Jamshedpur Football Club, a fully
owned subsidiary of Tata Steel, to promote and support football in India.

This is the first of its kind of agreement by SBI in the game of football.
Through this agreement, the SBI will become one of the principal sponsors of the JFC,
thereby having the SBI logo on Jersey.
The JRD Tata Sports Complex was set up in Jharkhand by Tata Steels, to conduct ISL
(Indian Super League) and promote the sport of Football in India.

Private sector lender ICICI Bank has launched an online platform called ‘Trade
Emerge’ for Indian exporters and importers to offer them digital banking and value-added services.

SBI General Insurance made a technological partnership with Google Pay to enable
users to buy SBI General’s health insurance on the Google Pay app.


SBI has announced the launch of SBI’s NAV-eCash card on INS Vikramaditya, the largest
naval aircraft carrier of India.
State Bank of India has launched a video life certificate service for pensioners. This
new facility will allow pensioners to submit their life certificates via video from their
homes.
Former Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI) Rajnish Kumar has come out with his
memoir titled ‘The Custodian of Trust – A Banker’s Memoir’.

Financial News

Government of India has signed a legal agreements with the World Bank worth $250
million for a project to improve quality of learning in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

  • Over 50 lakh students from all grades and stages of school education will benefit from the project, titled “Supporting Andhra’s Learning Transformation Project”.
  • IBRD has sanctioned $250 million for the project for a period of five years.
  • The main objectives of the SALT programme are strengthening foundation schools and providing training and skill development to teachers, facilitating state-level assessment and establishing an effective education management and information system.

India has received USD 87 billion in remittances in 2021 as per the report titled “Migration
and Development Brief 35” released by World Bank and KNOMAD.

  • KNOMAD (Global Knowledge Partnership on Migration and Development (KNOMAD) is an initiative of the World Bank ) is supported by a multi-donor trust fund established by the World Bank.
  • India is also the top country in receiving remittances in 2021. India is followed by China,
  • Mexico, the Philippines, and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
  • United States was the largest source country for remittances in 2020, followed by the
  • United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Switzerland.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has announced that the country is planning to build
the world’s first “Bitcoin City”

  • The new city is planned to be developed in the eastern region of La Union and will be initially funded by bitcoin-backed bonds.
  • It would get geothermal power from a volcano.
  • Bitcoin City will not levy any taxes except for value-added tax (VAT).
  • One half of this VAT levied will be used to fund the bonds issued to build the city and the next half would be used to pay for services such as garbage collection.
  • It must be remembered that in September 2021 El Salvador became the first country in the world to adopt bitcoin as legal tender.
