Odisha Research Centre

The Odisha Research Centre (ORC) is being established in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Indian Knowledge Systems Division, Ministry of Education, IIM Sambalpur, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Bhubaneswar. The primary goal of the Centre is to develop innovative epistemological frameworks to explore various dimensions of Odisha’s history, culture, economy, and society in a nuanced manner.

Purpose

The Odisha Research Centre will delve into research areas such as art, culture, archaeology, tradition, literature, sociology of Odisha, political processes, political culture, agriculture, commerce, business, industry, development trends of contemporary Odisha, science & technology, healthcare, and future technology. Additionally, the Centre will focus on smart cities, climate change, environmental protection, sustainable development, semiconductors, rare earths, and advanced minerals.

Significance

In 2036, as Odisha commemorates the centenary of the formation of the province, and in 2047, during India’s centenary of independence, the Odisha Research Centre will craft a roadmap for Odisha’s development, the advancement of Odia culture, and offer guidance to the Odia youth for a promising future over the next two decades.

The Research Centre will showcase Odisha’s uniqueness and chart a new course for contemporary social dynamics based on its rich historical context. It will play a pivotal role in examining the prosperous, accomplished, and illustrious traditional society, exploring the scientific rationale and the underlying processes behind the stone carvings of Odisha’s angular temples crafted by its sculptors.
