Ex-Zimbabwe Captain Heath Streak Passes Away

Zimbabwe’s former cricket captain, Heath Streak, passed away at the age of 49 after a prolonged battle with colon and liver cancer on 3rd September 2023. Born in Bulawayo, Streak was a cricketing icon renowned for his skills as a fast bowler. He held the esteemed position of being Zimbabwe’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, with an impressive record of 216 wickets at an average of 28.14.

In addition to his bowling prowess, he contributed 1990 runs at an average of 22.35 in Test matches. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Streak was equally impressive, securing 239 wickets at an average of 29.82 and scoring 2,943 runs at an average of 28.29. His contributions to Zimbabwean cricket will be remembered and celebrated.

About Heath Streak

Heath Hilton Streak (16 March 1974 – 3 September 2023) was a Zimbabwean cricketer and cricket coach who played for and captained the Zimbabwe national cricket team. He was the all-time leading wicket-taker for Zimbabwe in both Test cricket with 216 wickets and One Day Internationals with 239 wickets.

Streak was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, and started playing cricket at a young age. He made his first-class debut for Matabeleland in 1993, and his international debut for Zimbabwe in 1995.

Streak died on 3 September 2023, at the age of 49, after a battle with colon and liver cancer.
