NITI Aayog Hosts India-AU Inclusivity Workshop

NITI Aayog Collaboration

NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), recently hosted a workshop at the Taj Palace in New Delhi. The primary focus of this workshop was to explore and put into action the commitments outlined in the New Delhi Leadersโ€™ Declaration (NDLD), which was agreed upon during the G20 Conference. Let’s take a closer look at the key takeaways from this event.

Fostering Inclusive Growth:

The workshop brought together more than 50 experts and participants from both India and the African Union (AU). Dr. V K Saraswat, a Member of NITI Aayog, highlighted the potential for knowledge exchange, skills sharing, and resource cooperation between India and the AU. He encouraged participants to put forward practical proposals for collaboration in three pivotal areas: inclusive growth, sustainable infrastructure, and managing migration.

Agricultural Insights:

Prof. Ramesh Chand, another Member of NITI Aayog, stressed the importance of agricultural growth and the possibility of mutual learning between India and the AU. He underlined that both regions could gain valuable insights from each other’s experiences in agriculture and agribusiness. This encompasses collaborative efforts in agricultural research, technology transfer, and market access.

Enhancing Trade and Development:

Shri Dammo Ravi, the Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), emphasized the significance of India-AU collaboration in trade, investment, and development. Shri Sudhendu J. Sinha, an Advisor at NITI Aayog, reiterated the need for India and the African Union to work together to fulfill the objectives set out in the NDLD.

  2. India-AU Cooperation for Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure:
The workshop dedicated attention to cooperative efforts aimed at developing sustainable and resilient infrastructure, covering areas such as energy, transportation, and water management. Participants explored ways to support economic growth and development while increasing resilience to challenges like climate change.
  3. Managing Migration: Indo-AU Partnership’s Role:
The complex issue of migration was another pivotal topic. Participants delved into strategies for managing migration in a secure, organized, and compassionate manner. Discussions also revolved around understanding the root causes of migration, extending support to migrants and refugees, and combatting human trafficking.

Toward an Action Plan:

The workshop drew considerable interest from participants who contributed valuable insights. NITI Aayog intends to utilize these inputs to develop an Action Plan, facilitating the execution of the commitments outlined in the NDLD.
