Scheduled for November 26, 2023, at the Veterinary College Ground in Guwahati, Assam, the National Gopal Ratna Awards will be conferred by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala. The event will witness the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying.

National Gopal Ratna Awards 2023 Ceremony Overview

Organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, the National Gopal Ratna Award 2023 is a pivotal part of the National Milk Day celebration. Recognized as one of the highest national accolades in the livestock and dairy sector, its purpose is to acknowledge and motivate individuals contributing significantly to the industry.

Award Categories and Criteria

The National Gopal Ratna Award acknowledges exceptional contributions in three distinct categories:

  1. Outstanding Dairy Farmer Rearing Indigenous Cattle/Buffalo Breeds
  2. Excellent Dairy Cooperative/Milk Producer Company/Dairy Farmer Producer Organization
  3. Top-notch Artificial Insemination Technician (AIT)

Rewards and Recognition

Winners in the first two categories, Best Dairy Farmer and Best DCS/FPO/MPCs, will receive cash prizes of Rs. 5 lakh for the 1st rank, Rs. 3 lakh for the 2nd rank, and Rs. 2 lakh for the 3rd rank, along with a Certificate of merit and a memento.

In the Best AIT category, recipients will be acknowledged with a Certificate of merit and a memento.

Following a thorough selection process, the Department of Animal Husbandry has announced the winners in each category for the National Gopal Ratna Award 2023:

Outstanding Dairy Farmer Rearing Indigenous Cattle/Buffalo Breeds

  • 1st – Shri Ram Singh, Karnal, Haryana.
  • 2nd – Shri Nilesh Maganbhai Ahir, Surat, Gujarat.
  • 3rd – Smt. Brinda Siddharth Shah, Valsad, Gujarat.
  • 3rd – Shri Rahul Manohar Khairnar, Nashik, Maharashtra.

Excellent Dairy Cooperative Society/Milk Producer Company/Dairy Farmer Producer Organization

  • 1st – Pulpally Ksheerolpadaka Sahakarana Sangam D Ltd, Wayanad, Kerala.
  • 2nd – T M Hosoor Milk Producers Cooperative Society Ltd, Mandya, Karnataka.
  • 3rd – M.S 158 Nathamkovilpatti Milk Producers Cooperative Society, Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.

Top-notch Artificial Insemination Technician (AIT)

  • 1st – Shri Suman Kumar Sah, Araria, Bihar.
  • 2nd – Shri Anil Kumar Pradhan, Anugul, Odisha.
  • 3rd – Shri Muddapu Prasadarao, Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh.

Application Process and Participation

The Department invited applications through the online portal https://awards.gov.in from August 15, 2023, to October 15, 2023, resulting in a total of 1770 applications.

Significance of Livestock Sector

Emphasizing the vital role of the livestock sector in the Indian economy, it constitutes one-third of the agriculture and allied sector GVA, boasting over 8% CAGR. Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Fisheries activities significantly contribute to farmer income, particularly benefiting landless, small, and marginal farmers and women. Moreover, they play a pivotal role in providing affordable and nutritious food to millions.

Conservation of Indigenous Bovine Breeds: National Gopal Ratna Awards 2023

Acknowledging the significance of indigenous bovine breeds in the national economy, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying initiated the “Rashtriya Gokul Mission” under the National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development in December 2014. This program aims to conserve and develop indigenous bovine breeds, crucial for the overall growth and sustainability of the sector.
