FSSAI issues a directive mandating all FBOs to remove any claim of 100% fruit juices from labels

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a directive mandating all Food Business Operators (FBOs) to remove any claim of 100% fruit juices from the labels and advertisements of reconstituted fruit juices with an immediate effect. It has also instructed all FBOs to exhaust all existing pre-printed packaging materials before 1st September 2024.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a statement said that it has come to the attention of FSSAI that several FBOs have been inaccurately marketing various types of reconstituted fruit juices by claiming them to be 100%. FSSAI has also said that according to the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, there is no provision for making a 100% claim.

Mexico elects Claudia Sheinbaum as the country’s first female president

Claudia Sheinbaum won a landslide victory to become Mexico’s first female president, inheriting the project of her mentor and outgoing leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador whose popularity among the poor helped drive her triumph. Sheinbaum, a climate scientist and former mayor of Mexico City, won the presidency with between 58.3% and 60.7% of the vote.

India to host IATA’s Annual Global Airline Summit after 42 years

India will host the world’s premier aviation event, the annual general meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), next year, after a gap of 42 years.

This will be the third time the IATA AGM — considered one of the most significant events in the aviation industry’s calendar —has convened in Delhi, after 1958 and 1983.

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, will be the host airline of the AGM and the World Air Transport Summit, which will take place in Delhi between June 8 and 10, 2025. The chiefs and various other top executives of almost all global airlines, aircraft manufacturers, and other aviation sector stakeholders gather once a year at the IATA’s AGM to discuss.

Adani One launches two variants of co-branded credit cards with ICICI Bank

Adani One, the digital platform of the Adani Group, and ICICI Bank announced the launch of two variants of co-branded credit cards in collaboration with card network Visa.

The co-branded credit card partnership marks the Adani Group’s foray into the retail financial sector.

Available in two variants – Adani One ICICI Bank Signature Credit Card and Adani One ICICI Bank Platinum Credit Card – the credit cards will offer a reward program to its customers.

SBI joins the Rs 8-trillion m-cap league; eyes $100 billion m-cap

The State Bank of India (SBI) became the first public sector bank and the seventh Indian company to cross the Rs 8 trillion market capitalization (m-cap). HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank are the only other lenders with m-cap of over Rs 8 trillion.

SBI achieved the milestone as its shares surged 9.5%.

In the last year, SBI is up nearly 55%, while the Nifty PSU Bank index has almost doubled during the period.

At present, six Indian companies are valued at over Rs 8 trillion. Apart from SBI, Reliance Industries, TCS, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, and ICICI Bank are in the Rs 8 trillion league. Infosys had also crossed the milestone but is now valued at Rs 5.8 trillion.

Axis Bank, Bajaj Allianz forge strategic bancassurance partnership

Axis Bank, a private sector bank, and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, a private general insurer, have entered a strategic bancassurance partnership to boost insurance penetration and financial inclusion in the country. Under this Bancassurance tie-up, a comprehensive suite of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance products will be distributed through Axis Bank’s network.

Bancassurance is an insurance distribution model where companies partner with banks to sell policies. This arrangement benefits both the bank and insurance companies get to benefit from this arrangement. While the bank earns a commission from the insurance company, the insurer gains from the bank’s distribution network.
