Recruitment process of Tamil Nadu PSC for Group 1 is three stage process: Preliminary Test, Mains Test and Interview. Preliminary exam serves as screening test for mains exam. Final merit list is based on the score of mains and interview.

TNPSC Group 1 Prelims exam is the first phase of the recruitment process.
- TNPSC Group 1 Prelims 2024 comprises two sections: General Studies and Aptitude & Mental Ability.
- The General Studies section contains 150 questions, while the Aptitude and Mental Ability section consist of 50 questions.
- Each question in the exam carries 1.5 marks, resulting in a total paper weightage of 300 marks.
- Candidates are allotted a total time of 180 minutes or 3 hours to complete the exam.

The TNPSC Group 1 Mains exam 2024 is the second phase of the selection process which has three descriptive papers. The number of questions from each topic varies in the papers. Topics include:
