ICG conducts the recruitment examinations for the post of Navik (GD) annually. It is a national level examination. On 16th December 2022, ICG issued a notification for the recruitment of Navik (GD) under the Ministry of Defense. In all, there are 260 vacancies. All the candidates on joining the Coast Guard will be placed in Basic pay of Rs. 21700/- (Pay Level 3) plus DA (Dearness Allowance) and difference allowances based on nature of duty and the place of posting. Coast Guard Navik General Duty Annual Salary (excluding the Allowances)- Rs. 2,60,400/-

• Provide assistance and protection to fishermen in distress while at sea.
• Protect and preserve the maritime environment, including prevention and control of marine pollution.

Coast Guard Navik (General Duty) Training

Candidates shortlisted as Navik (GD) receive training at INS Chilka for twenty-four weeks. The General Duty Navik post branch allocation at INS Chilka is deputed afloat training for three months following by Cadre training. This training depends upon the cadre and varies from four to six months.

Coast Guard Career Growth and Promotion 

The GD Navik can be promoted upto the rank of Pradhan Adhikari with a salary of Rs. 47,600/- (Pay Level 8) with Dearness Allowance. Candidates joining as Navik (General Duty) can also be promoted as Officers, but promotion to the Officer cadre is subject to suitability and performance of the cadets.
