ICG conducts the recruitment examinations for the post of Navik (GD) annually. It is a national level examination. Coast Guard Navik (General Duty) Training

Candidates shortlisted as Navik (GD) receive training at INS Chilka for twenty-four weeks. The General Duty Navik post branch allocation at INS Chilka is deputed afloat training for three months following by Cadre training. This training depends upon the cadre and varies from four to six months.

Coast Guard Career Growth and Promotion 

The GD Navik can be promoted upto the rank of Pradhan Adhikari with a salary of Rs. 47,600/- (Pay Level 8) with Dearness Allowance. Candidates joining as Navik (General Duty) can also be promoted as Officers, but promotion to the Officer cadre is subject to suitability and performance of the cadets.
