Indian Air Force Day 2021: 08 October. The Air Force Day 2021 marks the 89th
anniversary of the official foundation day of the Indian Air force.

  • Indian Air Force was officially established on 8 October 1932 by the British Empire as the Royal Indian Air Force. The name was changed to Indian Air Force in 1950.
  • Indian Air Force is the fourth largest air force in the world. its Hindon Air Force Station located in UP’s Ghaziabad is the largest in Asia.
  • The motto of the IAF is ‘Nabha Sparsham Deeptham’, which means ‘touch the sky with glory’. It was taken from the 11th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, which comprises the discourse given by Lord Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

World Egg Day is celebrated worldwide on the ‘Second Friday of October’ month each year since 1996

  • In 2021, the day is being observed on October 08, 2021.
  • The Day was established at the IEC Vienna 1996 conference and helps to raise awareness of the benefits of eggs and their importance in human nutrition.
  • The theme for 2021 World Egg Day is “Eggs for all: Nature’s perfect package”

Nobel Prize in Chemistry

  • Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the year 2021 has been awarded jointly to Benjamin List (Germany) and David MacMillan (the USA) “for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis”.
  • The duo has been awarded for their work in developing a new way for building molecules known as “asymmetric organocatalysis.”

Nobel Prize in Literature 2021 was awarded to Abdulrazak Gurnah born in Zanzibar and active in England, “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents.

  • Tanzanian novelist was born in Zanzibar in 1948 and has since lived in the UK and Nigeria.
  • He writes in English, and his most famous novel is Paradise, which was shortlisted for the Booker prize in 1994
  • Gurnah currently lives in the UK and taught English Literature at the University of Kent.

2021 Nobel Prize in Physics on October 05, 2021.

  • Half of the award has been given jointly to US-based Syukuro Manabe and Klaus
    Hasselmann of Germany “for the physical modelling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming”
  • The other half of the award has been conferred to Giorgio Parisi from Italy “for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales.”
  • Prize amount: 10 million Swedish kronor.

2021 Right Livelihood Award (Sweden’s Alternative Nobel)

  • Delhi-based environmental organisation “Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE)” has been felicitated with the award of 2021
  • LIFE has been selected for the award for its “grassroots approach of empowering vulnerable communities to protect their livelihoods and claim their right to a clean environment.”
  • Award was established in 1980 by German-Swedish philanthropist Jakob von to “honour and support those who offer practical and exemplary contribution in such fields as environmental protection, human rights, sustainable development, health, education, which are not included in Nobel Prize list.
  • Delhi-based environmental organisation “Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE)” has been felicitated with the award of 2021
  • Right Livelihood Award comes with a cash prize of 1 million Swedish crowns ($115,000) and long-term support to highlight and expand Laureates’
  • Apart from this, three other three awardees who were also honored include
  • Cameroonian women rights activist Marthe Wandou
  • Russian environmental activist Vladimir Slivyak
  • Canadian Indigenous rights defender Freda Huson

Forbes India Rich List 2021

  • Mukesh Ambani tops Forbes India Rich List 2021 with net worth of $92.7 billion. He has retained his position as the wealthiest Indian for the 14th consecutive year on Forbes India list, since 2008.
  • The second spot has been retained by Adani GroupChairman Gautam Adani, with a net worth of $74.8 billion.
  • Tech tycoon Shiv Nadar acquired the third spot with net worth of $31 billion.
  • India’s 100 richest are now worth $775 billion.

PM Modi dedicated 35 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Oxygen Plants to the nation on October 07, 2021 through video-conferencing, during an event at AIIMS Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

  • These 35 PSA Oxygen Plants have been established under PM CARES, across 35 States and Union Territories.
  • Now all districts of the country will now have commissioned PSA Oxygen Plants.
  • As per the data, a total of 1,224 PSA oxygen plants have been funded under the PM-CARES (Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation) fund across the country till date and of these, more than 1,100 plants have already been commissioned providing an output of over 1,750 MT oxygen per day.

Wada Kolam, a rice variety widely grown in Palghar district in Maharashtra has received the ‘Geographical Indication’ (GI) tag, which means the product now gets unique identity as well as wider market base.

  • The traditional variety of Wada Kolam rice, also known as Zini or Jhini rice, is grown in Wada tehsil of Palghar district in Maharashtra.
  • Madhya Pradesh continues to fight a legal battle to get Geographical Indication (GI) tag for basmati rice (PB1) produced in the state , Chinnor rice produced in Balaghat district has bagged the GI tag.

The famed white onion of Alibag in Maharashtra’s Raigad district was given the
Geographical Indication (GI) tag bringing worldwide recognition to its unique sweet taste, no-tears factor, as well as its medicinal properties.

  • The soil of Alibaug taluka has low sulphur content

Judima, a homemade rice wine from Assam and Sojat Mehndi (Henna) from Rajasthan, has been awarded the geographical indication (GI) tag.

  • Judima is a local fermented drink made with rice, brewed by the Dimasa community in Assam. It derives its name from words ‘ju’ which means wine and Dima means ‘belonging to the Dimasa’. It is the first traditional brew in all of northeast to bag GI tag.
  • Sojat tehsil of the Pali district in Rajasthan has a suitable geological structure, topography and drainage system, climate and soil for naturally cultivating the mehndi leave crop.

World Expo 2020 has been organised in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022.

World Bank has estimated India’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the current fiscal year 2021-22 to grow by 8.3% in its latest economic update for South Asia.

The GDP growth projection for India in three fiscal year as per World Bank is as follows:
 2021-22 (FY22) – 8.3%
 2022-23 (FY23) – 7.5%
 2023-24 (FY24) – 6.5%

Fintech company BharatPe has launched ‘PostPe’, a new solution to provide credit to customers on the ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ (BNPL) platform.

  • Using the Postpe solution, customers can avail interest-free credit limit of up to Rs 10 lakh.
  • The unique feature of Postpe is that it is not only limited to big-ticket purchases but can also be used for micro-purchases.
  • With Postpe, BharatPe aims to facilitate a loan book of $300 million in the first 12 months for its lending partners.

Fino Payments Bank has received market regulator SEBI’s nod for launching a ₹1,300 cr IPO

  • Fino Payments Bank IPO is likely to see fresh issue of equity shares worth ₹300 cr and an Offer for Sale of 15,602,999 equity shares by promoter Fino Paytech Limited (FPL).

  • In February 2021, the Ministry of Finance had announced to allow all private sector banks to participate in government-related business like collection of taxes, pension payments and small savings schemes.
  • Following the announcement, the KMBL has become the first scheduled private sector bank to receive permission to take part in government-related business.

Kotak Mahindra Bank in News

  • Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMBL) has received approval from the Government of India for collection of direct and indirect taxes, such as income tax, Goods and Services Tax (GST) etc, through its banking network.
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank has launched a platform named ‘Neo Collections’, which is a Do-It-Yourself Digital Repayment Platform for missed loan repayments.
  • Indian Navy has signed an MoU with Kotak Mahindra for salary accounts of all its personnel – both serving and retired.
  • Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMBL) announced it has been selected as a digital payments partner by the National Agriculture Market (eNAM), a pan-India electronic trading portal for farm produce. KMBL will enable and facilitate online transactions for all stakeholders on the eNAM platform, including farmers, traders and farmer producer organisations

Appointment

Shri P L Haranadh, an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer of 1994 batch, has been appointed as the new Chairman of Paradip Port Trust (PPT).

  • Haranadh has worked in various capacities, during his 27 years of service, which includes 22 years in the Indian Railways and 5 years in the Ministry of Shipping.
  • Paradip Port is a natural, deep-water port on the East coast of India in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. It is situated at confluence of the Mahanadi river and the Bay of Bengal.
