HPSC HCS Selection Process

The Haryana Civil Services 2024 exam recruitment process has three stages. First stage is the preliminary exam which carries 200 marks. If candidates clear prelims, they are applicable for the main exam which carries total of 600 marks. The main exam tests candidate’s knowledge through written papers. If they pass mains, they go to the interview round carrying 75 marks. The interview checks aspirant’s personality and communication skills. Aspirants must pass all three stages – prelims, mains and interview – to get selected for various posts in the Haryana Civil Services.

HPSC HCS Selection Process – Prelims

• Prelims exam is the first stage of the Haryana Civil Service selection process.
• In the Prelims, there are two papers – General Studies and CSAT.
• Each paper carries 100 marks.
• General Studies tests your knowledge of history, polity, economy, environment, etc.
• CSAT checks logical reasoning abilities, decision making skills, data interpretation skills.
• The time duration for each paper is 2 hours.
• You must pass both papers to qualify for the Mains stage.
• The Prelims stage is only a qualifying exam. Marks scored in Prelims are not counted in the final merit list.
• Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks in Prelims set by the HPSC to be eligible for the next round.

HPSC HCS Selection Process – Mains

• Candidates who qualify Haryana civil service prelims, they go for the mains exam.
• In Mains, there are 4 papers.
• Paper I tests English language skills for 100 marks for 3 hours.
• Paper II examines Hindi language proficiency for 100 marks for 3 hours.
• Paper III is General Studies for 200 marks for 3 hours time duration.
• Paper IV is the Optional Paper 1 for 200 marks for which 3 hours time duration is allotted.
• Candidates can choose your optional subject from the list of optional subjects given by HPSC.
• Performance in Mains carries more weightage than Prelims.
• Candidates must pass all 4 papers to be shortlisted for the Interview stage.
• Marks scored in Mains are considered in determining the final merit list.
