OPSC Civil Service Eligibility Criteria 

The area of eligibility has been divided into several categories that the candidates should fulfil to apply for the OPSC Civil Service Exam. 

1. Age Limit

a. The candidate’s age should be between 21 years and 32 years.

b. One thing for the candidates who belong to more than one category is that they will be eligible for only one category which is more beneficial for him/her.

c. There has been some relaxation for the reserved candidates. This has been provided below:

A) SCs/ STs/ SEBCs/Women/Ex- Servicemen- Age relaxation: 5 years.

B) PWDs- Age relaxation: 10 years.

d. The date of birth written in the application form should match the date as written in the high school certificate.

2. Educational  Qualification-

a. The candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in any subject or any other equivalent degree from a well-reputed university.

b. The candidate should know how to speak, read and write Odia with fluency. The candidate should also have:

1. Passed the Middle School test with Odia as a language subject.

                                                         OR

2. Passed the Matriculation or comparable exam with Odia as a medium of assessment in a non-language subject.

                                                    OR

3. Passed the final examination of Class VIII or above with Odia as a language subject. 

                                                         OR

4. Passed the Middle English School Standard in Odia.

  • The candidate who will apply for the position must have a master’s degree with at least 55% of the score or an equivalent grade in relevant/related subjects from an Indian university or an equivalent degree from a foreign university.
  • Provided that for candidates belonging to the categories of Programmed Caste, Programmed Tribe, ESCB and Persons with Disabilities, the requirement to achieve at least 55% of the points is reduced to 50% of the points or an equivalent qualification.
  • The candidate should have passed the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Assistant Professor Appointment (Stage-I) or obtained a PhD in a relevant /related subject from a university in India or a university abroad.

3. Citizenship-

  • All the candidates should be a citizen of India.
  • The candidates should be careful about providing any sort of false information.
  • The candidates should have an Aadhar Card or any other ID proof of equivalent importance.

4. Number Of Attempts-

A certain number of attempts has been specified for each candidate eligible for the OPSC Civil Service Exam. The attempts provided to every candidate according to their categories has been provided below:

A) For Non- reserved candidates – No. Of attempts – 4

B) For SEBC  candidates – No. Of attempts – 7

C) For SC/ ST candidates – No. Of attempts – Not specified

5. Experience-

A)As per the notice, there are no such eligibility criteria in terms of experience. 

B)Candidates with or without experience can apply for this exam as they meet the other eligibility criteria.

6. Physical Standards-

There are physical standards specified for both men and women that are eligible for OPSC Civil Service Exam.

The candidate must be in good mental and physical health, and free of any physical defects that would prevent him from performing his duties.

B) Every candidate for an appointment is subjected to a medical examination by the government’s medical board.

C) The candidate who does not meet the Medical Board’s requirements will not be appointed.

D) The candidate’s vision will also be tested according to the commission’s rules.

Important Points To Be Kept In Mind:

  1. As of January 1, 2020, candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 32.
  2. For certain categories of candidates, there are age relaxations.
  3. The University Grants Commission must approve the candidate’s bachelor’s degree (UGC).
  4. If a candidate has been prevented from appearing in any test or interview by the Odisha Public Service Commission or any other State Commission or UPSC for a certain period, he or she would not be eligible for recruitment for that period.
  5. If any government servant meets all of the eligibility requirements, he/she can apply for this position.
  6. Any candidate who claims to have changed his or her name after passing the High School Examination must provide documentation in order to prove it.
