Nobel Prize 2019 in Economics Awarded

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economy for 2019 was awarded to following Persons:

  • Abhijit Banerjee
  • Esther Duflo
  • Michael Kremer

These People have won the award for their experimental approach to alleviate Global Poverty.

Abhijit Banerjee is an India based Economist while Esther Duflo was born in Paris, France.  Michael Kremer is and US-born economist. Esther Duflo is the wife of Abhijit Banerjee.

Saurav Ganguly set to Become BCCI President

Saurav Ganguly has been appointed as the new President of the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI).

He was currently serving as the President of Cricket Association of Bengal. He will be replacing C.K. Khanna who held the office for 2 years from 2017 to 2019.

Union Minister Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah will be the new Secretary.

Arun Dhumal (younger brother of ex- BCCI President Anurag Thakur) will be chaired as the new treasurer.

Brijesh Patel will chair the IPL Governing Council.

World bank cuts down India’s Growth Projection for 2019-20

World bank has reduced the growth projection of India from 7.5% to 6% for the FY 2019-20.

In 2018, the growth stood at 6.9%. India is expected to recover gradually to 6.9% in 2021 and 7.2% in 2022. Few other sectors that will see stagnancy or downfall are as below:

  • Agricultural Sector – 2.9%
  • Services Sector – 7.5%
The World bank report identified softening consumption due to slow growth in rural incomes,domestic demands and credits taken from NBFC as a key challenge.

India and Sierra Leone signed Six Agreements

India and Sierra Leone signed 6 agreements which includes extending a credit line of 30 million US$ for the rice cultivation.

The agreements are signed between India Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio.

Sierra Leone is a country is West Africa, on the Atlantic Ocean.

MoS Prahlad Singh Patel participates in BRICS Culture Minister’s Meetings

Minister of State Prahlad Singh Patel particiapted in the BRICS Culture Minister’s meeting to represent India on the platform.

The Meeting was held in Curitiba, Brazil. He strengthened on India’s committment to contribute towards strengthening bonds between the member countries.

He also proposed to add Literature as another field of cooperation between the countries to enhance the cooperation in the field of literary works.
