Yashobhoomi – Location, Cost, Design and Purpose

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre, known as ‘Yashobhoomi,’ in Dwarka, New Delhi, on September 17th. This state-of-the-art facility includes a magnificent Convention Centre, multiple Exhibition halls, and various other amenities. On the same occasion, he launched the ‘PM Vishwakarma Scheme’ aimed at supporting traditional artisans and craftspeople. Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated the extension of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to a new metro station, ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.’

Purpose

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for world-class infrastructure to host meetings, conferences, and exhibitions in India takes a significant step forward with the operationalization of ‘Yashobhoomi’ in Dwarka. ‘Yashobhoomi’ will become one of the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities, covering a total project area of over 8.9 lakh square meters and a total built-up area of more than 1.8 lakh square meters.

Cost & Physical Infrastructure

  • Developed at a cost of around Rs. 5400 crore, ‘Yashobhoomi’ features a magnificent Convention Centre with multiple Exhibition halls and other amenities.
  • The Convention Center, spanning more than 73 thousand square meters, includes 15 convention rooms, including the Main Auditorium, the Grand Ballroom, and 13 meeting rooms, accommodating a total of 11,000 delegates.
  • The Convention center boasts the largest LED media facade in the country.
  • The plenary hall in the Convention Center can seat around 6,000 guests and features innovative automated seating systems for flexible configurations.
  • High-quality materials like wooden floors and acoustic wall panels ensure a world-class experience.
  • The Grand Ballroom, with its unique petal ceiling, can host approximately 2,500 guests and includes an extended open area for 500 people.
  • The 13 meeting rooms, spread across eight floors, cater to a variety of meeting scales.

World’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities

‘Yashobhoomi’ also boasts one of the world’s largest Exhibition halls, covering an area of over 1.07 lakh square meters. These expansive Exhibition halls will be used to host exhibitions, trade fairs, and business events. They are connected to a grand foyer space, distinguished by a unique copper ceiling designed to filter light through various skylights. The foyer area will accommodate essential support facilities such as Media rooms, VVIP lounges, Cloak facilities, visitor information center, and ticketing services, among others.

Design

The design of all public circulation areas within ‘Yashobhoomi’ aims to maintain continuity with the outdoor space of the convention center. It features materials and objects inspired by Indian culture, including terrazzo floors with Brass inlay representing rangoli patterns, suspended sound-absorbent metal cylinders, and illuminated patterned walls. These design elements create a harmonious and culturally rich environment for visitors.

‘Yashobhoomi’ places a strong emphasis on sustainability, incorporating state-of-the-art environmental features. It features a cutting-edge wastewater treatment system that ensures 100% wastewater reuse. Additionally, the facility has provisions for rainwater harvesting, further contributing to its eco-friendliness. The campus of ‘Yashobhoomi’ has earned a prestigious Platinum certification from the CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), underscoring its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Security

In terms of security, ‘Yashobhoomi’ has advanced security measures to ensure the safety of all visitors. The facility also offers underground car parking that can accommodate over 3,000 cars, with more than 100 electric charging points to support eco-friendly transportation.

Connected to Delhi Airport Metro

Furthermore, ‘Yashobhoomi’ will be seamlessly connected to the Delhi Airport Metro Express line through the inauguration of the new metro station, ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25’. This metro station will feature three subways: one connecting the station to the Exhibition halls, convention center, and Central Arena (spanning 735 meters), another connecting the entry/exit across Dwarka Expressway, and a third one linking the Metro station to the foyer of the future Exhibition halls of ‘Yashobhoomi’. This connectivity will facilitate easy access for visitors using public transportation.
