Sachin Sarjerao Khilari clinches gold medal in shot put at World Para Athletics C’ship

In Para Athletics, India’s Sachin Sarjerao Khilari clinched the gold medal in the men’s shot put at the World Para Athletics Championship in Kobe, Japan. He also set a new Asian record with a throw of 16.30 meters in the F46 category, to defend his title at the world championships.

Another Indian, Dharambir bagged the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Club Throw yesterday. His final throw distance of 33.31 meters not only secured him the Bronze Medal but also set a new Asian Record in the F51 Category. Mariyappan Thangavelu clinched his maiden gold medal at the World Para Athletics by leaping 1.88m in the men’s T63 high jump event.

RBI approves transfer of Rs 2.11 Lakh Cr as surplus to govt

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the transfer of Rs 2,10,874 crore as surplus to the Central Government for the accounting year 2023-24. The same was approved during the 608th meeting of the Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India, which was held in Mumbai.

The Board, under the Chairmanship of RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, decided to increase the Contingent Risk Buffer, CRB to 6.50 per cent for FY 2023-24 as the economy remains robust and resilient. Besides discussing and approving the Reserve Bank’s Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year 2023-24; the board also reviewed the global and domestic economic scenario.

India’s market capitalization to GDP ratio is at a 15-year high of 140%

The stock prices of listed companies continue to outpace growth in India’s gross domestic product (GDP). The market capitalization (mcap) of all companies listed and traded on the BSE is up 61% since the end of March 2023, compared to an estimated 10% growth in India’s GDP at current prices in 2023-24 (FY24).

As a result, India’s mcap-to-GDP ratio has hit a 15-year high of 140.2%, up sharply from 95.8% at the end of March 2023.

According to data from BSE, the 4,357 companies available for trade had a combined mcap of around Rs 416 trillion on Tuesday against India’s GDP at current prices of Rs 296.6 trillion in FY24.

The combined mcap of India’s top 30 listed companies that are part of the S&P BSE Sensex is up only 27.2% in this period. The Sensex companies’ combined mcap has risen from Rs 115.9 trillion at the end of March 2023 to Rs 147.4 trillion. The traded value of the 2 indices tracks the changes in the combined free-float mcap rather than the companies’ full mcap.

Spain Becomes 99th Member Of International Solar Alliance

Spain has become the 99th member of the International Solar Alliance. Spain handed over the International Solar Alliance Instrument of Ratification. India and France jointly launched the International Solar Alliance during COP21 in Paris. The ISA aims to contribute to the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement through the rapid and massive deployment of solar energy.

Earlier, in March, Panama officially ratified the International Solar Alliance (ISA), marking its entry as the 97th member nation.

The world’s highest observatory begins operations in Chile

The University of Tokyo has inaugurated the Atacama Observatory (TAO). It has been built on the summit of Cerro Chajnantor in the Antofagasta Region, at 5,640 meters above sea level.
