The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) is hosting a distinctive event that showcases the products and craftsmanship of talented entrepreneurs and artisans with disabilities from all over the country. This event, called ‘Divya Kala Mela,’ is part of ongoing efforts to support and promote the skills and creativity of individuals with disabilities. The Divya Kala Mela is scheduled to take place from September 15th to September 24th, 2023, in Varanasi.
The event promises to be a captivating experience for visitors, as it will feature a diverse array of products from various regions of India, including Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states. Visitors can expect to see handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery works, packaged food, and much more, all created by individuals with disabilities. This initiative not only showcases their talent but also promotes inclusivity and empowerment within the community of persons with disabilities.
About Divya Kala Mela
The Divya Kala Mela is a remarkable initiative by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan). It aims at promoting the economic empowerment of individuals with disabilities (PwD/Divyangjan). It provides a significant platform for marketing and showcasing the products and skills of people with disabilities. The event in Varanasi marks the seventh installment in a series that began in 2022.
The event was inaugurated on September 15th at 5.00 P.M., with A. Narayanaswamy, Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, as the chief guest. Various other dignitaries will also grace the occasion.

Previous events – Delhi (December 2022), Mumbai (February 2023), Bhopal (March 2023), Guwahati (May 2023), Indore (June 2023), and Jaipur (June 29th – July 5th, 2023). This ongoing series underscores the commitment to empower and uplift individuals with disabilities. It provides them with opportunities to showcase their talents and products on a larger scale.
7th Divya Kala Mela
The upcoming ‘Divya Kala Mela’ in Varanasi will feature around 100 talented Divyang artisans, artists, and entrepreneurs from approximately 20 states and union territories. The event will showcase a wide range of products, including:
- Home Décor & Lifestyle items.
- Clothing.
- Stationery and eco-friendly products.
- Packaged food and organic products.
- Toys & Gifts.
- Personal Accessories like jewelry and clutch bags.
This event provides a perfect opportunity to support the “vocal for local” initiative and purchase products made by Divyang craftsmen who exhibit extraordinary determination and talent.
The ‘Divya Kala Mela’ will span 10 days and will be open from 10.00 A.M. to 10.00 P.M. Visitors can look forward to cultural activities and performances by Divyang artists and well-known professionals. Additionally, they can savor a variety of regional cuisines from different parts of India.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) has ambitious plans to promote this concept. As part of these efforts, ‘Divya Kala Mela’ will be organized in 12 cities across India during 2023-2024.
