UPSC ISS IES 2024 Eligibility Criteria
The conducting commission UPSC has set some parameters for the applicants, to fill the application form. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria set for ISS and IES, can fill the form.
According to the officials, the parameters are : –
- Age Limit: The candidates’ age should be between 21 and 30 years as of 1st August 2023. However age relaxation is applied for those who seek for the relaxation and are eligible.
- Nationality/Citizenship: Candidates who are an Indian citizen, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees settled in India before January 1, 1962, and persons of Indian origin who migrated from certain countries to settle in India, are eligible. It’s important to note that candidates falling under these categories, except for Indian citizens, must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India while applying for the exam.
- Educational Qualification:
- For Indian Economic Service (IES): Candidates are required to hold a Post Graduate Degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics, or Econometrics. This degree must be from a recognized university or a foreign university approved by the Central Government of India.
- For Indian Statistical Service (ISS): Candidates should have either a Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics as one of the subjects, or they must possess a Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics. The degree should be from a recognized university or a foreign university approved by the Central Government of India.
- Number of Attempts: Number of attempts of exam are limited for the candidates according to their categories. For General category, 6 attempts; for OBC, 9 attempts and for SC/ST, there is no any limit.

The selection process for Indian Statistical Service and Indian Economic Service consists of two stages: Written exam and Personality test. Eligible applicants go for the written exam and those who successfully clear the minimum cut off criteria, they get the chance of Interview.
