Different Roles In IPS Officer Job Profile

1. Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP): As a DSP, the officers will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and updating briefs on active criminal cases in areas with senior authorities. They are also responsible for preparing the agenda for meetings between senior officials and other police officers or departments. They are also expected to assist in the coordination of visits by police delegates to India, visits by Indian local and state police administrations, and the police administration Research Division.

2. Additional Superintendent Police (ASP): As an ASP, the officers are assigned any one division among the few divisions. These divisions can be economic, political, cultural, etc., and they are expected to find out administrative works from their seniors. They are also required to gather relevant information and follow up.

3. Superintendent Police (SP): As an SP, the officers are liable for overseeing the financial collection department of police. An IPS officer also supervises staff to verify all civil and criminal administration pending to the state, central and regional government.

4. Joint Commissioner Police: A Joint Commissioner of Police is a Secretary-level Principal Officer who serves as a special counsellor and consultant to senior officers on key issues of police policy and gives direction and solutions to the appropriate bureaus. Through the ITA Division, the Counselor is responsible for updating, resolving, and maintaining the appropriate laws and administering the direct police administration policy.

IPS officer deals with the civil and criminal administration of the country. The responsibilities of an IPS Officer is to look into the implementation of policies that govern India’s domestic and state police administration. The primary job responsibilities of an IPS officer are to ensure that their subordinates are safe and properly managed. IPS officers work with IAS officers to maintain law and order in the district.
