BPSC 70th Syllabus 2024

The detailed syllabus for BPSC CCE is released by Bihar Public Service Commission, with the BPSC Notification. The exam process of BPSC CCE completes in three stages: Prelims., Mains and Interview. BPSC syllabus for Prelims and mains demands vast knowledge of the state and nation’s happenings of history and current.

There is 5 subjects for evaluation in the BPSC Exam: GS paper I, GS paper II, Essay and 2 qualifying papers: general Hindi and Optional Paper. The total marks for the exam is 1100 from which only 900 maximum marks are counted for the merit list. The interview process holds weightage of 120 marks.

Some changes in the BPSC CCE:

  • BPSC CDPO Prelims has been merged with BPSC CCE, creating a unified selection process.
  • There will be negative marking of 1/3 in Prelims.
  • A new paper, Essay paper has been added to the syllabus holding the weightage of 300 marks.
  • Optional Paper and General Hindi are qualifying, each of 100 marks.

BPSC 70th CCE Syllabus 2024

The BPSC Syllabus 2024 is a crucial roadmap for civil service aspirants, guiding their preparation journey. It’s divided into BPSC Prelims and Mains segments.

The Prelims Syllabus covers General Studies, Aptitude, and Current Affairs. The exam will be of 2 hours consisting 150 question for 150 marks. The aspirants qualifying this stage will be eligible for the Mains exam.

The Mains Syllabus includes General Studies papers, qualifying languages, and optional subjects chosen by candidates. These optional subjects, spanning from Literature to Sciences, allowing aspirants to demonstrate their specialized knowledge.

  • The BPSC 70th CCE Prelims exam will be a multiple-choice question-based examination.
  • This exam will be qualifying in nature, marks scored in this exam will not be counted for merit.
  • The exam will consists of 150 questions of 150 marks.
  • 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer.
  • 1/3 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer or each multiple response.

Points to be noted regarding the Prelims Syllabus:

  1. General Science:
    • Questions focus on a general understanding of science without needing specialized knowledge.
  2. History:
    • Tests candidates on general knowledge of history, including Bihar’s history, social environment, and political landscape.
  3. Geography:
    • Includes questions about India’s agricultural and natural resources, with a focus on Bihar’s geography.
  4. Indian Polity and Economy:
    • Examines knowledge of India’s political system, Panchayati raj, community development, and planning, both at the national and Bihar levels.
  5. Indian National Movement:
    • Tests knowledge of the 19th-century nature, the growth of nationalism, India’s independence, and Bihar’s role in the freedom movement.

BPSC 70th Mains Exam Pattern

  • This Exam Consists of 5 papers: GS I, GS II, General Hindi Paper and Optional Papers.
  • General Hindi and Optional Papers are qualifying in nature.
  • Questions of General Studies will be available in Hindi, Urdu and English, depending upon the candidate’s choice.
  • Total marks for the exam will be1100 but for merit only 900 marks will be considered. (Hindi & Optional Paper are qualifying).
  • As per the latest BPSC Mains Exam Pattern, Optional Paper format has changed to MCQ-type question.
  • Each exam is 3 hours long, with a subjective format (except for the optional paper).
  • There is no negative marking in the descriptive question papers.

BPSC CCE Mains Exam Syllabus

Hindi Paper

The Hindi paper is only qualifying in nature. The minimum passing criteria for the BPSC Mains Hindi Paper is 30% marks.

General Studies I

The General Studies I paper carries 300 marks and the time duration for this paper will be 3 hours.

  1. Indian Culture: Questions in this area will cover the country’s general history from around the middle of the nineteenth century, with a particular concentration on Bihar.
  2. Modern History of India: The introduction and growth of Western education (including technical education), Bihar’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle, the Santhal Uprising of 1857, the Birsa movement, Champaran Satyagrah, the Quit India Movement of 1942, characteristics of Mauryan and Paleolithic art, Patna Qulam painting, as well as questions on Gandhi, Tagore, and Nehru, will all be covered in this section of the exam.
  3. Current International and National Events of Importance
  4. Statistical Analysis, Diagrams, and Graphs: This section includes exercises on statistics, diagrams, and graphs to test the candidate’s ability to derive conclusions from the given information.

General Studies II

The General Studies II paper carries 300 marks and the time duration for this paper will be 3 hours.

  1. Indian Polity: This section will mostly assess the applicant’s familiarity with the country’s present political system (with emphasis on Bihar).
  2. Indian Economy and Geography of India: This section includes questions pertaining to economic planning in India as well as the physical, economic, and social geography of India (with emphasis on Bihar).
  3. Role and Impact of Science and Technology in the Development of India.

Optional Subjects

For optional subjects, there will be 34 papers from which aspirants will select the optional subject according to their choice. This paper will be qualifying in nature. This paper will carry 300 marks and question will be of Honours level.

BPSC 70th Interview and Physical Standards

Candidates who qualify the BPSC Mains Exam proceed to the ‘Interview’ Round, where they are interviewed by a Board appointed by the Commission. The interview round carries 120 marks. During the interview, the candidate’s career and interests, as mentioned in the Application Form, are considered by the Board.

The objective of this round is to assess the candidate’s personal suitability for a career in state services through a conversation aimed at exploring their mental qualities and analytical abilities. The interview emphasizes awareness of current affairs both within and outside the state.
