On the 16th of October, 2023, Shri S. Krishnan (IAS), Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), unveiled the cutting-edge Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Lab at NIELIT Gorakhpur. This momentous occasion took place during the 26th All India Director’s Meet of NIELIT.

Bridging Gaps Through Future Skill PRIME Project

The state-of-the-art RPA Lab is a product of the Future Skill PRIME Project, generously funded by MeitY. The project’s primary objective is to enhance the skills of the workforce in the emerging field of RPA. What makes this lab truly unique is that it’s the very first of its kind in Uttar Pradesh under the Future Skill PRIME Project, created to establish strong connections between industry and academia.

A Vision for Transformation: RPA Lab

Secretary S. Krishnan emphasized the pivotal role that this RPA Lab will play in propelling India to the forefront of global technology. He stressed the transformative potential of RPA in improving services to citizens by automating repetitive, manual tasks such as data entry and verification, which will reduce errors and response times.

NIELIT’s Crucial Role in Skill Development

Furthermore, Secretary S. Krishnan underscored the vital role of NIELIT in narrowing the gap between formal and non-formal digital skill development. He encouraged NIELIT to continue its work in equipping the youth of Uttar Pradesh with the skills needed for local industries and global companies. He particularly highlighted the importance of skill development in the manufacturing sector, especially in Industry 4.0, and supported NIELIT’s efforts to foster local entrepreneurs through digital skill development.

The Gathering of Minds: RPA Lab

The 26th All India Director’s Meet of NIELIT spanned two days, from October 16th to 17th, 2023, at the NIELIT Centre in Gorakhpur. Secretary S. Krishnan delivered the keynote address at this event, which was attended by all the Executive Directors, Directors, and Director In-Charges of the 49 NIELIT Centres across India. The primary goal of this meeting was to pool together the capabilities and resources available at these centers and collaboratively plan to address the digital skill development needs of the nation.

Recognizing NIELIT’s Impact

Economic Advisor, MeitY, Shri Kuntal Sensarma, commended NIELIT’s efforts and its role in skill development within the IT and Electronics sectors. He praised NIELIT for offering skill-based courses, non-formal courses, and staying abreast of the latest technological advancements. Additionally, he acknowledged NIELIT’s contribution to the North Eastern region and challenging areas.

Empowering Through Collaboration

During the event, Professor Poonam Tandon, Vice-Chancellor of DDU Gorakhpur, and Dr. M. M. Tripathi, Director General of NIELIT, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This MoU outlines plans for offering employment-oriented courses and training in future skill technology in the Gorakhpur region, preparing candidates for careers in the IECT sector and making them industry-ready.

Empowering DDU and Economically Disadvantaged Youths

DDU, with its 350+ colleges and 3 lakh candidates, will significantly benefit from this collaboration. It will provide opportunities for internships and programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the IECT sector, enhancing the employability of economically disadvantaged youths in the Purvanchal region. DDU is also planning online programs, and NIELIT’s partnership will ensure that students and faculty can learn in an environment of international standards.

NIELIT’s Mission and Roadmap

Dr. Madan Mohan Tripathi, Director General of NIELIT, discussed how NIELIT caters to the training, consultancy, design, and product development needs of IECT industries and allied sectors. He also shared the plan and roadmap for achieving the skill development targets and enhancing the performance of NIELIT centers.

Building a Brighter Future with GIDA

Smt. Anuj Malik, CEO of the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), expressed an interest in establishing a Skill Center of NIELIT in GIDA. GIDA generously offered a built-up space and land, free of cost for five years. NIELIT plans to create a state-of-the-art facility focused on advancing technical education, skill development, and employment opportunities in the region. This vision aims to foster technical excellence, innovation, and promote entrepreneurship by nurturing start-ups, ultimately meeting the demand for skilled manpower in GIDA’s industries.
