History of World Hindi Day 2024

Hindi, spoken mostly in North India, is one of India’s two official languages, along with English. It officially became the language of the Republic of India in 1949, a special year that marked Beohar Rajendra Simha’s 50th birthday.

Hindi is written in the Devanagari script and has around 16 dialects, like Awadhi, Bhojpuri, Bundeli, and Khariboli.
It’s a direct relative of an early form of Vedic Sanskrit, going through Sauraseni Prakrit and Śauraseni Apabhraṃśa.

According to the 2011 census, there are 528 million native Hindi speakers in India, making up about 43% of the total population.
It’s mainly spoken in the Hindi Belt, which includes states like Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
