1 crore OPD tokens via ABHA’s Scan & Share in a year

1 crore OPD tokens: ABHA Card

The National Health Authority (NHA) has achieved a remarkable milestone by generating over 1 crore tokens for Out-Patient Department (OPD) registrations through the ABHA-based Scan and Share service. Introduced in October 2022 under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), this paperless system empowers patients to simplify the registration process. With a simple scan of the QR code placed at the OPD registration counter, patients can instantly share their ABHA profile.

Nationwide Adoption

The Scan and Share service have rapidly gained popularity in India’s public health facilities, significantly improving the management of queues at patient registration counters and enhancing the overall patient experience. Currently operational in more than 2,600 health facilities across 419 districts in 33 States and Union Territories of India, this service has become an invaluable tool in healthcare delivery.

Insights from Usage Data: 1 crore OPD tokens

The ABDM Public Dashboard reveals some of the highest usage of this service at prestigious institutions like AIIMS in Delhi, Bhopal, and Raipur. Impressively, nine out of the top fifteen hospitals using the ABHA-based Scan and Share service are located in Uttar Pradesh. Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, and Delhi follow closely behind UP in terms of the overall number of OPD tokens generated through this innovative service. Government hospitals, including AIIMS New Delhi, SRN Hospital Prayagraj, and AIIMS Raipur, have emerged as the top-performing healthcare facilities for the Scan and Share service.

A Vision for Enhanced Healthcare

Discussing the importance of digital services such as Scan and Share, the CEO of NHA remarked, “ABDM aims to simplify and streamline healthcare delivery. The Scan and Share service at OPD counters is a straightforward technological intervention that helps nearly 1 lakh patients save time spent in hospital queues every day. With the intention of easing patients’ challenges when accessing healthcare services, we plan to extend this service to pharmacy counters and laboratories. We aim to leverage technology to assist elderly patients, pregnant women, and other citizens as they access healthcare services. ABHA-based registrations will also provide patients with digital access to their prescriptions, pharmacy records, and diagnostic reports.”

Promoting Adoption and Recognizing Excellence

To incentivize hospitals and Digital Solution Companies (DSCs) providing technology to healthcare facilities, NHA offers incentives for Scan and Share transactions under ABDM’s Digital Health Incentive Scheme (DHIS). This initiative not only encourages the adoption of digital solutions that enhance the patient experience but also contributes to making healthcare more accessible and efficient for all.
