The National Testing Agency (NTA) initiated the registration process for the PM YASASVI Scholarship Scheme on its website by August 10, 2023. The deadline for registration has been extended to August 17. This scheme aims to provide scholarships to eligible applicants.
About PM YASASVI Scholarship Scheme
The “PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India for OBCs and Others (PM-YASASVI)” is a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing top-tier school education to vulnerable groups comprising Other Backward Class (OBCs), Economically Backward Class (EBC), and Denotified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT/S-NT). Under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, this central sector scheme involves conducting an entrance exam for scholarship selection. The responsibility for conducting the YASASVI ENTRANCE TEST-2023 has been assigned to the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Objective
The primary goal of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC, and DNT students (excluding those covered under SC, ST, or OBC categories) is to promote the well-being and encouragement of children from these groups. This is achieved through the provision of financial support during the pre-matriculation or secondary education phase.
Scope
The scholarship offered through this Scheme will be applicable for education within India and will be granted by the respective State/Union Territory government based on the applicant’s domicile. In other words, the scholarship will be provided to students who are residents of that particular state or union territory. Additionally, the scholarship will be applicable exclusively to students enrolled in Government Schools.
Scholarship Availability
The award of scholarships is at two levels:
- For candidates who are in Class IX
- For candidates who are in Class XI
Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible to appear for the exam under the PM YASHASVI Scholarship Scheme, applicants need to fulfill the following criteria:
- Applicants must be Indian Nationals.
- They should belong to the OBC (Other Backward Classes) or EBC (Economically Backward Classes) or DNT (De-Notified Tribes) category.
- They should be enrolled in identified Top Class Schools.
- They must have passed Class 8 or Class 10 (as applicable) in the academic year 2022-23.
- The total annual income of the parents/guardian from all sources should not exceed ₹2.5 lakhs.
- For Class 9 applicants, their birth should be between 01.04.2007 to 31.03.2011 (both days inclusive).
- For Class 11 applicants, their birth should be between 01.04.2005 to 31.03.2009 (both days inclusive).
- Both boys and girls are eligible to apply, and the eligibility requirements for girls are the same as for boys.
- The Income Certificate is required to be taken once only, i.e. at the time of admission to courses.
Benefits
Under the PM YASHASVI Scholarship Scheme, eligible students will receive the following scholarship amounts:
- Students in Class 9: ₹75,000
- Students in Class 11: ₹1,25,000
The scholarships awarded through this program are open to students and are granted based on a standardized testing process that follows international standards. This ensures a fair and transparent selection process for the scholarship recipients.
YASASVI Entrance Test (YET)
The YASASVI ENTRANCE TEST (YET) – 2023 is an examination conducted to select eligible candidates for the award of scholarships under the PM YASHASVI Scholarship Scheme.
- Purpose: The YET 2023 is conducted to award scholarships to OBC, EBC, and DNT candidates studying in Class 9 and Class 11 in identified Top Schools.
- Mode of Examination: The YET-2023 will be conducted in a Paper pen mode, which is an OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) based format.
- Date of Examination: The exam is scheduled to take place on 29th September 2023 (Friday).
- Qualifying Marks: To be declared as qualified, a candidate must secure a minimum of 35% marks in the written test.
- Language: The question paper will be bilingual, available in both Hindi and English.
- Syllabus: The syllabus for the examination is as follows:
- For admission to Class 9: NCERT Syllabus of Class 8th
- For admission to Class 11: NCERT Syllabus of Class 10th
