The selection process consists of three stages: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Language Proficiency Test (LPT). Understanding the exam pattern is crucial for effective preparation.

  1. Preliminary Exam (Prelims) – Objective-type test

RBI Assistant Prelims Exam Pattern 2025


The Preliminary Exam is the first stage of the selection process. It consists of three sections: English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. The test is conducted online and carries a total of 100 marks.

  • The total duration of the Prelims Exam is 60 minutes.
  • Each section has a fixed time limit.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
  • Candidates must clear sectional cut-offs and overall cut-offs to qualify for the Mains Exam.

RBI Assistant Mains Exam Pattern 2025


Candidates who clear the Prelims Exam move to the Mains Exam, which consists of five sections: Reasoning, English Language, Numerical Ability, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge. The test is conducted online with a total of 200 marks.

  • The total duration of the Mains Exam is 135 minutes.
  • Each section has a specific time limit.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
  • Candidates must clear sectional and overall cut-offs to qualify for the next stage.

RBI Assistant Language Proficiency Test (LPT)

  • Candidates failing the LPT may be disqualified from the selection process.
