The merit list contains the names of candidates who have qualified for research fellowships or lectureship positions, based on their scores and the cut-off criteria. Check if your name appears in the merit list to assess your eligibility.

Factors Affecting the Cut Off

How does the cut off get decided? What factors help CSIR come to a specific cut off for the candidates. The following are the points considered when cut offs are being decided.

  1. Difficulty Level of the Exam: The difficulty level of the question paper can significantly impact the cut-off marks. If the exam is relatively more challenging, the cut-off marks may be lower as it could be more difficult for candidates to score higher marks.
  2. Total Number of Candidates: The number of candidates appearing for the CSIR NET exam also plays a role in determining the cut-off marks. If there is a large pool of highly competitive candidates, the cut-off marks may be higher as there is a greater competition for limited positions.
  3. Number of Available Fellowships/Positions: The number of available fellowships or positions offered by CSIR or other participating institutions can influence the cut-off marks. If there are limited vacancies, the cut-off marks may be higher as only the top-scoring candidates are selected.
  4. Reservation and Category Factors: CSIR NET cut-off marks may vary based on the reservation policy and category-wise distribution of fellowships/positions. Different categories such as General, SC, ST, OBC, and EWS may have separate cut-off marks, with some categories having relaxed criteria.
  5. Previous Year’s Cut-off Trends: The cut-off marks for CSIR NET may also be influenced by the cut-off trends of previous years. If there has been a significant variation in cut-off marks in previous years, it can impact the current year’s cut-off as well.
