Gujarat Assembly Adopts NeVA Digital House, Going Paperless

NeVA Digital House

NeVA Digital House: President Droupadi Murmu officiated the launch of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) at the Gujarat legislative assembly in Gandhinagar, joined by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Application’ and signifies a substantial stride toward achieving a fully digital legislative process.

The NeVA Digital House Project: Transforming Legislative Operations

The National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) is a pioneering endeavor developed by the Union Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, aimed at digitizing legislative work and making it accessible to both citizens and Assembly members. NeVA features a user-friendly website and a mobile app that simplify access to various documents, including question lists, business agendas, and reports.

Expanding NeVA’s Influence: A Growing Network

At present, 21 State legislatures have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for NeVA implementation, with allocated funds for 17 legislatures. Remarkably, nine legislatures have already adopted a fully digital, paperless mode, conducting their entire legislative processes through the NeVA platform.

Benefits of Digital Transformation: Revolutionizing Governance

The adoption of NeVA brings forth several notable advantages:

  1. Environmental Responsibility: The shift toward a paperless legislative process substantially reduces paper consumption, promoting environmental sustainability.
  2. Enhanced Accessibility: NeVA makes legislative information readily accessible to citizens and Assembly members, fostering transparency and accountability.
  3. Efficiency and Productivity: The digital platform streamlines legislative proceedings, reducing administrative obstacles and enhancing overall productivity.
  4. Cost-Efficiency: Reduced paper usage and streamlined processes lead to potential long-term cost savings.
  5. Real-Time Updates: NeVA offers real-time updates and notifications, ensuring that members remain informed about the latest developments.
  6. Robust Data Security: The software incorporates stringent security measures to protect sensitive legislative data.

‘One Nation, One Application’: A Vision Realized

NeVA’s core concept resonates with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Application,’ prioritizing a ‘Cloud First’ and ‘Mobile First’ approach, with a focus on serving Members FIRST. Prime Minister Modi introduced the notion of a ‘One Nation, One Legislative Platform’ in November 2021, emphasizing the need for seamless digital integration across the nation.

In conclusion, the launch of NeVA at the Gujarat legislative assembly signifies a significant stride towards a digital and paperless future in India’s legislative processes. As more states adopt this transformative platform, the vision of ‘One Nation, One Application’ moves closer to realization, benefiting citizens, legislators, and the environment alike.
