The Prime Minister has consistently advocated for providing encouragement and policy support to artisans and craftsmen who are preserving the nation’s rich tradition of artistry and craftsmanship. In alignment with this vision, the government initiated the celebration of National Handloom Day, with the inaugural event held on August 7, 2015.

2023 marked the 9th National Handloom Day celebration. As part of the event, the Prime Minister also unveiled the e-portal of “भारतीय वस्त्र एवं शिल्प कोष”. It is a Repository of Textiles and crafts developed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
