NPSC Selection Process

Nagaland Public Service Commission conducts Civil Service exam to recruit candidates for various administrative posts. There is a process of selection of candidates. The process includes three stages. Candidates have to clear all the stages. If they fail to meet the cut off criteria in any stage, they will be disqualified from the recruitment process.

The NPSC Selection process stages are:

NPSC Selection Process – Stage 1

The initial phase of the Nagaland Civil Service exam recruitment process is the Preliminary exam. It comprises a single objective-type paper (MCQ with OMR Answer Sheet) with a maximum of 200 marks, to be completed within three hours. The primary purpose of this examination is to screen candidates, and the results will not influence their final ranking. There will be a negative marking of 0.33 in the preliminary examination.

NPSC Selection Process – Stage 2

The second stage is the NPSC Mains exam. Candidates who qualify the first stage, they will be allowed for the mains exam. In the Nagaland PSC Mains exam, the aspirants have to answer both the descriptive and objective type questions.

There are three papers in the NPSC Mains exam:

  • General English
  • General Studies 1
  • General Studies 2

Each of the three papers of the NPSC Mains exam carries 200 marks. General Studies 1 will be objective-type, whereas General English and General Studies 2 will be descriptive-type. Only the objective type paper, i.e. the second paper, is subject to negative marking. One-third of a mark will be deducted for each wrong response. The candidate who clear this stage will be called up for the Viva-Voce which will be the last stage of the selection process.

NPSC Selection Process – Stage 3

The final stage of the Nagaland PSC selection process is the Interview or viva voce. Candidates who clear the NPSC Mains test will receive invitations for a Personality Test or Interview. In this phase, candidates are evaluated based on their interpersonal skills, personality, determination, and suitability for the job. The Commission decides the number of candidates to be called for the interview/viva-voce at its discretion or as per the provisions laid down in the Recruitment Rules.
