Ministry of Women and Child Development Launches 100-Day Special Awareness Campaign on Women’s Empowerment

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) organized the “National Workshop on SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women – Launch of the 100-Days Special Awareness Campaign” at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The workshop marks the commencement of a nationwide 100-day awareness campaign focused on women-centric issues, scheduled from 21st June to 4th October 2024.

The one-day workshop featured sessions on legal provisions, communication strategies, and counseling techniques for grassroots functionaries of SANKALP: HEWs which are operational in 693 districts across India.

GoI approves new transmission schemes worth ₹13,595 crore to evacuate 4.5 GW RE power each from Rajasthan and Karnataka

The Government of India has approved new Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) schemes to evacuate 9 GW of RE power from Rajasthan and Karnataka. These schemes will be implemented through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) mode. These schemes are part of 500 GW RE capacity by 2030 out of which 200 GW is already connected.

The power evacuation scheme of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) will evacuate 4.5 GW of RE power from Rajasthan. It comprises 1 GW from the Fatehgarh Complex, 2.5 GW from the Barmer Complex, and 1 GW from the Nagaur (Merta) Complex. This power will be transferred to the Mainpuri Region, Fatehpur, and Orai of Uttar Pradesh. The completion period of the scheme is two years.

The cost of the scheme is about ₹12,241 crore. The System strengthening scheme of Karnataka will evacuate 4.5 GW RE power from Koppal area and Gadag area. The scheme will be completed by June 2027. The cost of the scheme is about ₹1,354 crore.

Madhya Pradesh Govt Approves The Establishment Of One Prime Minister College Of Excellence In All Districts Of State

In Madhya Pradesh, the Prime Minister College of Excellence will be inaugurated ceremonially in all 55 districts of the state on July 1. In a meeting with senior officials on the activities of the Higher Education Department, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said that a drone policy will also be made in the state.

Under the National Education Policy, the Madhya Pradesh government has approved the establishment of one Prime Minister College of Excellence in all the districts of the state. Additional posts have been approved in the selected colleges to establish the Prime Minister College of Excellence in 55 districts of the state.

Telangana State Cabinet Approves Proposal To Waive Crop Loans For Each Farmer In The State By Aug 15

The Telangana state cabinet has approved a proposal to waive up to two lakh rupees worth of crop loans for each farmer in the state by August 15. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that crop loans taken between December 12th, 2018, and December 9th, 2023, will be eligible to avail of the waiver, a period that was not covered by the previous government’s loan waiver.

FM Nirmala Sitharaman To Chair 53rd GST Council Meeting In New Delhi

FM Nirmala Sitharaman will chair the 53rd GST Council meeting in New Delhi on 21st June. The GST Council is meeting for the first time after the formation of a new government. The last GST Council meeting was held on October 7th, last year. The GST Council had recommended amendments in the conditions of appointment of the President and Member of the proposed GST.

Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank gets national award for APY implementation

Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), a regional rural bank sponsored by Canara Bank, has been honored with a national award by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) for significant enrolment under the Atal Pension Yojana (APY). APY provides a safety net for workers in the informal sector, ensuring a pre-defined pension after 60 years.

The government can take control of all telecom networks in times of emergency under the new Telecom Act

The central government will be able to take control of any telecommunications services or networks in times of emergency after the implementation of the Telecommunications Act 2023, which will be effective on June 26. According to the notification, the government may take control of the telecom services on the grounds of security, public order, or prevention of offenses.

Section 20, which will be effective on June 26 states, “On the occurrence of any public emergency, including disaster management, or in the interest of public safety, the Central Government or a State Government or any officer specially authorized in this behalf by the Central Government or a State Government can take temporary possession of any telecommunication service or telecommunication network from an authorized entity; or provide for appropriate mechanisms to ensure that messages of a user or group of users authorized for response and recovery during a public emergency are routed on priority.”

After the rules of the Act come into effect, the Universal Service Obligation Fund will become Digital Bharat Nidhi, which can be used for funding research and development, and pilot projects instead of just supporting the establishment of telecom services in rural areas.

RBI revises its incentive framework to push banks to increase the flow of priority sector credit

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has revised its incentive framework to push banks to increase the flow of priority sector credit to districts with lower credit flow in order to address the regional disparities at the district level. This effectively means that if a bank gives a Rs 100 loan in a low credit flow district, it will be considered a Rs 125 priority sector loan.

Accordingly, the central bank has assigned a higher weight of 125% to the incremental priority sector credit in the districts with per capita priority sector credit less than Rs 9000, with effect from FY25. Earlier from FY22 onwards till date, RBI followed a rule of a higher weight of 125% in districts where per capita priority sector credit flow was Rs 6000.

The government enhances allocation for the Fertilizer Sector under the SIGHT Programme of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM)

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) is implementing the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) with a target to achieve a production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum of Green Hydrogen in the country by the year 2030. The National Green Hydrogen Mission was launched on 04th January 2023 with an outlay of Rs. 19,744 crores up to FY 2029-30.

Under the Mission, MNRE had issued the Scheme Guidelines for implementation of the SIGHT Programme – Component II: Incentive for Procurement of Green Ammonia Production (under Mode2A) of the NGHM on 16.01.2024. Mode 2A caters to the requirements of the fertilizer sector. As per the said Guidelines, the capacity available for bidding under Tranche I of Mode 2A was 5,50,000 tonnes
