Compulsory Tamil paper in TN government exams

Tamil Nadu government has recently issued a Government order(GO) that mandates a compulsory Tamil paper in all Tamil Nadu government exams conducted by recruiting agencies in the state including TNPSC, TRB, TNUSRB. By this GO, the government seeks to accord priority to students of Tamil Nadu to get maximum employment in state government jobs.

Compulsory Tamil language Paper | Exams

In the case of TNPSC, the language paper is mandatory in the Mains exam of TNPSC Group -I, II, and IIA exams which have two or more phases of the examination. There is no change in the preliminary stages of these exams.

For exams with single-phase such as Group- III and IV exams, Tamil paper is mandatory in the preliminary phase. The ‘General English’ paper will be replaced by the ‘General Tamil’ paper for all candidates.

The guidelines for the exams conducted by other recruiting agencies such as Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB), Medical Services Recruitment Board, Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB), Tamil Nadu Forest Uniformed Services Recruitment Committee, etc will be released separately for each exam conducted by them.

The paper will be of SSLC standard and qualifying in nature. Aspirants have to score a minimum of 40% in the paper. The paper is descriptive in nature. Only after clearing the General Tamil paper, papers of other subjects of a candidate will be evaluated.
