In a groundbreaking development, the Indian government has named Jaya Verma Sinha as the inaugural female Chairperson of the Railway Board, the supreme decision-making entity governing the Ministry of Railways.

Commencing her journey in 1988 within the Indian Railway Traffic Service, she garnered experience across various railway divisions, namely the Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway, and Eastern Railway.
Additionally, she contributed her expertise to the Centre for Railway Electrification (CORE) and served as the Railway Advisor in the High Commission of India, Dhaka, Bangladesh for a span of four years. Her tenure in Bangladesh saw the inauguration of the Maitree Express, establishing a vital link between Kolkata and Dhaka. Importantly, she also held the role of Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division.
